Sounds like you want the upcoming G80 M3 with AWD. It's not as powerful as the Hellcat but it won't handle like a barge either!

I have both. Overall the M5 feels so much more luxurious. The seats are a huge upgrade they fit like a glove. Also the steering feel, ride quality, engine noise, massaging seats and lane keep assist (not sure if you can get that on the M340, probably can).
The power of the M5 is on another level. With a JB4 the M5 runs 0-60 in 2.5 and 0-100mph in 5.4-5.5. With that said, you cannot floor the car unless you're on a really good surface. Any bumps at all will just cause wheel spin. Any moisture on the road, cold surface, poor pavement, etc. and it wont hook up. Forget about flooring it across your average intersection. What's nice about the M340 is you can drop the hammer anywhere and have fun. You can't just do that in the M5. You need a lot of room and you get well over 100mph in places where you shouldn't be lol. On an average day I don't even see one good opportunity to floor the M5 and end up driving the M340 faster.

oh wow, LOL. I just got my M340i and was thinking about one of them M tours and can see how driving the M5 could be a negative in a way. I guess I have a similar experience to a smaller extent since I went to the dealer looking for a 330i. They happened to have the M340i there so i test drove both. So obviously I ended up with the M340i

Next time try the 530i which is nearly 500 pounds lighter and the only G30 with near perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

The CTR on the other hand is fun everywhere on the street. It feels quick, but not overwhelming. Every time you get on the gas in the M5 you are over 100 in a few seconds. My guess is that the 340 splits the difference. I need to go drive a 340i soon, but I want to wait for the new M3 before I make any changes. |

Speaking of M5 I was cruising behind one a few weeks ago and the guy was just taking it easy. Out of nowhere a wanker in a new corolla cut him off. Luckily the M5 driver was going the legal speed and braked in time or the idiot would have likely total the new M5. I respect the car but it will never be on my radar. Too big, too much power etc, provided I could afford it that is. The size alone is no go.

Funny, as I did the opposite.
I still have the M5, but decided on a new M340i as a city daily driver. Easier to U-turn, corner, etc. I haven't regretted the decision. The M5 remains a monster of a highway car.

I still believe the m340i or M3 is one of the best all round vehicles you can get if you don't have to tow a trailer.

You're comparing an M5 to a Civic Type R? Seriously? |

In C&D's annual lightning lap, the M2C got a time of 2:59 while the M5C got a time of 2:54. So a pretty significant difference. I'd guess the M340 would be slower than the M2C around the track.

Yes seriously...
Someone made a comment inferring that the M5 may be too fast to use on the street. I own an M5 and a Type R and agree that the M5 is brutally quick while the Type R strikes an almost perfect balance for a street car. Have you actually driven a Type R? There is a reason that an M5 (or M3) loses 15% of its value when you drive it off the lot and 30% in the first year, yet a used Type R sells for close to sticker price even after a few years. F90 trade in value is already in the mid to low $80K range after a year on the market. |
