X4M Competition, X4 M40i, M340i, or wait for the M3?

The X4M has old interior technology whether that suits your fancy or not.
The X4 is also a little dated on the interior, just not as much as the X4M. The M340I is the cheapest and the most up-to-date vehicle in the lineup you mentioned. If you're just looking for a vehicle to hold you off until the new M3 then the M340I makes most sense to me financially unless of course you need the bigger cargo space and financials aren't an issue lmao |

So I just returned my 2017 M3 competition off lease. It was the last of three M3's, so I know and understand the animal well.
I drove the X3m, the X3m40, and the M340i Both X3's were very nice, but they are big, high, heavy vehicles. Nice driving SUV's, not particularly roomy, but nice. The M340i is as good as a sports sedan gets. It is smoother, sounds better, and is every bit as fast as the outgoing M3. It is more comfortable by far, has more tech, and is probably the best sedan BMW has put on the market in decades. If you are looking for a car to drive on the road... To the office, to the grocery store, to school, out to dinner, a movie, whatever..... this is a sublime sedan. It is REALLY good. If you want to race on a track, entertain the new M3 or M4. This M340i is everything my M was, and a lot of things my M3 was not. |

In a world of automatic transmissions this is a true statement.

I test drove all three. If it were me, I’d get the M340i simply because I prefer a sedan over an SUV any day.
Between the X4 M40i and X4M, I’d get the M40i. Reason being the M40i is the perfect blend of power and comfort. The X4M was stiff. Both cars sound amazing and pull well. But in real life conditions, the M40i has more than enough power for a daily. |

I considered the X3 M40 and it was very fun (didn't even bother driving the X3M). I really like the look of the X3 in general but I knew it was going to get updated front and rear lights soon and that would bother me. Also the slightly older interior (although the 2020 gets iDrive 7 and live cockpit, the rest still had the older look). The M340i ultimately won me over.
