I've been eagerly awaiting this, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. I expected it to be more like a mini 8 series grand coupe, this seems more like a GT. I'm stumped on what to buy next, I already have an M340, I wanted when this lease is up I didn't necessarily want to get another one, I was hoping this would fit the bill, but I'm starting to think that it won't.

Probably my next car. Love my M340i, but it lacks one critical item that I REALLY wanted.

Ventilated Seats.

M440i GC solves this.

So, maybe some extra room up front over the 3, but I'm guessing it will still be a bit cramped in the back.

That coupled with reduced performance over the 3:
BMW.de quotes 0-100kmh of 4.4 for the M340i, but 4.7 for the M440i GC. Also, lots of discount programs
discontinued as of late. While the hatch is a nice feature, you have to wonder whether its gonna
be worth the extra premium this time around...(and I'm sure there will be).

Spec sheets says 4.4 for the M440i GC as well...

this is good enough...

Good enough to abandon my S5 Sportback and come back to the fold. My wife likes the grille and she tends to get style more than I do.

So hurry up to get one with a proper instrument panel and dashboard.
I'm happy with iDrive 7 in my Coupe, and have good use of the physical buttons for climate and favourite buttons they threw away in i4.

Since no one could verify the measurement stats until now, things are a bit clearer.
It's 5.9" longer than the prior Gran Coupe, so another extension within the G platform is likely not needed. Hope they allocated that space well to rear seat legroom and cargo area.

Overlay of the Coupe and Gran Coupe for comparison purposes.

Recalling the differences years ago between the prior gen's, this GC is bigger in the back, a lot more differences in several locations, not as sleek as it used to be. The prior gen was merely a roofline change; this one is significantly more.

They are different…

…the i4's nose is a tad bit softer/rounder in places. Probably to squeeze out every last aerodynamic penny

Might be only 20 hp increase since 2010 but it's WAY faster than a car from 2010. A 2010 bmw 328i did 0 to 60 in 7.6s. A 2021 330i now does it in 5.4 seconds. So who cares about hp numbers....
LITERALLY EVERYONE lol

Although I see what you're saying….
I wasn't saying new cars are slow by any means. It just seemed odd in the horsepower wartime we live in today, the base models seemed to have been forgotten about. Purely on a numbers-only basis.

I think HP is related to displacement, and in the quest for mpg, 2.0L is the de facto choice with less HP than, say, 3.0L.

However 0-60 is augmented by turbo, e.g. latest B46 2.0L turbo can hit 5.4 seconds, while also provides 40-42mpg in not-so-eco driving.

So for one, I do not think 250+HP is that bad.

The bmw design team seems to have decided it was a good move to draw inspiration from the ugly GT - how many of you honestly prefer this look?

Correct. For the zero-60MPH.
But I was quoting the European stat of 0-62Km/hr.
For comparison, BMWUSA quotes 4.1 for the M340i XDrive.

Awesomely revealing GIF!
It certainly does look like a much taller and wider change in the
rear section over the Coupe (as compared to the last time).
Definitely need to visit this car in person....

That's a no-go for me.

What was cool about the GC is that it was the Coupe with two small doors cut in it. Simple concept.

Now they're trying to make it into something it isn't. This car was great because of its sleek looks. Now its turned into something more like an AMC Pacer. Blech. Have to see in person before making the final call, but I'm not feeling it.

The Grand Coupe's are really nice vehicles, but the grill absolutely does not work on this car.

Something seems off with the proportions of the new GC…it doesn't look long, low, and sleek like the previous gen and kinda looks awkward like the 3GT. Maybe I have to see it in person…

Use the German configurator, it is the standard front bumper.

Hmm yes the rear deck is higher but the profile is much more like the prior 4GC to me. I do like this new car, easily my favourite of the new 3/4 series generation.

ETTO though

Thank you. Think I might order this bumper. Looks better than the standard or the msport grill bumper. Hopefully it works for i4.
