Features you’ve ended up using more than you thought you would

For those who have a G20, which features did you initially think seemed gimmicky or wouldn’t be useful, but ended up liking them and using them often?

Blind spot detection. At first, it seemed like something I didnt really need. Now, I don't know how I ever drove without it. Of all the safety features, this one is the best.

Drivers assistance... honestly it's so useful cause sometimes I reach down for my water bottle gotta unscrew it take a sip than seal it and put it back... not having to control the wheel is helpful it keeps you on track and everything.. of course I only got like 5 second span until it starts honking on me but still really useful

Remote Start! It's been a godsend with this heat in Texas.

Parking Assistant, Surround View and especially the Driving Assistant with Jam Assist. I didn't think i would use the Driving Assistant much since i actually enjoy driving and pushing the car but its great on the return leg home as i get to relax and recoup some of the fuel efficiency i lost on the first leg when pushing the car.

Driving Assistant Pro. I just took a 6 hour road trip and the car basically drove itself for over 80% of the time.

Took about an hour or so for me to start trusting it but the damn thing works well.

This is one thing that I wished I got. I do regret it. I think the traffic jam assist would also have been a good move here in Los Angeles

The auto back up. I use it all the time out of my garage and driveway. I have used it one other time in a neighbors driveway at night that is really hard to see. Car took care of it. Really wish I would have gotten the enhanced cruise control though.

Definitely Driving Assistant Pro. Never thought i would use it after driving manuals for 20 year. Guess what - Boston traffic is the worst in the country now - i think we surpassed LA. We are behind horse and buggy in average speed.

So needless to say use this feature daily. Works great.

Is that feature like an adaptive cruise control?

Active Cruise Control (5DF) is a part of Driving Assistant Pro (5AU).

It can be configured separately and it's pretty cheap on G20 (unlike G30, G01...).

It is that and more. (adaptive cruise, lane assist, lane keep, lane change assist, etc) It is a full level 2 self driving algorithm based on cameras and radars. It is very well executed and programmed with the BMW driver in mind. (meaning - it is not lame like some other systems i tried)

With pow full engine the car is aggressive in keeping the distance and braking for the cars in front.
So far only g20 3 series have it
X5/x7
And new 2020 750 LCI cars

Thanks for the response. I'm looking forward to testing it on a demo car.

Ah driving in Boston. I don't miss that.

One time in Boston google maps told me "you can't get there from here"

To be honest I didn’t really know what it was when I ordered and only learned of it’s function from a YouTube video.

Traffic assist works the same way.

This covers it nicely. Mine drove itself through the Baltimore tunnel and the entire length of the curvey Capital Parkway. The only slight hiccups were around some construction areas.

It will also change lanes just by using the turn signal. Although I still need to see if it would do more than one lane if you keep the signal on.

I agree panda. LA commutes during rush hour are brutal. Biggest regret yet.

FYI. My G30 ping ponged in the lane when using lane assistant. So bad I turned it off for good.

But then a fellow poster told me to uncheck the intervention button on the lane depature warning. Voila! Now the lane assistant keeps me nicely centered.

So...if you are having the ping pong effect, make sure you uncheck the intervention button for the lane departure warning (not the intervention button for the blind spot warning).

'Hey BMW'

i never use voice assistants, but using this instead of taking my eyes off the road and going through menus has been great.

particularly for calling people and switching from bluetooth to radio

Personally I find the first much more convenient and I'm wondering if it matters at all.

Not to nitpick, but 5DF is technically a different ACC than the one in 5AU (the latter has more range and is in general more high-end). E.g. 5DF only works till 160 km/h (around 100 mph), whereas 5AU works until 210 km/h (130 mph).

Though I read the BMW just packed the high-end one in all cars at the beginning to streamline manufacturing, not sure whether that is still the case.

Well no, but the Hey BMW assistant also lets you change some parts of the car (like A/C), whereas I think the conventional microphone-button (so cars without OS7) only allow for limited stuff like setting/changing the navigation target?
