It makes the G20 and G30 look really old.
It’s also the kind of design change people will like in time. If you look at the history, bold design has always been hated at first, but adapted later.

Not quite.. Look at Bangle designs. Hated by all.... Shoved down our throats ... stuck for couple of years... still hated by all
Bangle leaves.... not able to withstand criticism... Designs back pedal in a hurry returning to classic BMW form and design...

Forgotten like a bad dream.....

I agree with you, I think change is great even if it’s for the worse. It helps us learn what works and what doesn’t.

The current poll results are 1 in 5 people liking the new design. I wonder how much this is going to change over the next few years.

The designs weren't hated by all based on sales, so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Hey.. at least the Grills were small////

But we can't even blame the small grill for Bangle designs... Time did not prove them to be any better or more acceptable... Just like Aztech - ugly is ugly

On the other hand - the classic BMW 7 series is still a desirable car - small grills and all

There's nothing for me to judge. Sales figures are sales figures. What was considered ugly on the forums (..or in auto mags) proved to sell well with the general public.

Great overall design. Keep the new grill design just shorten back to the dimensions of the other 4 series

The E65 7er was and still is the best selling generation of all time. Nothing that came before or after it has been able to topple it off.

Yuck. I wish there was a regular grill option.

Reviving a thread from over a year ago? Really? Time to let it go, man. This is the “regular grille” now.

I was at my dealership yesterday morning to have my coolant topped off. While waiting I wandered around the showroom floor. I saw 2 series,3 series, 5 series, 7 series and 8 series (as well as SAVs) but no 4 series. There is a seldom visited second showroom on the second floor (it is hard to even find the elevator to get up there). I took the elevator and lo and behold, there were 2 4 series cars up there.

My guess is that they are hiding the ugly things there.

For whatever its worth, very little if you are a fan, in person it looks as bad to me as it does in pictures.

I realize the F150 sells far, far more units than the 3 / 4 series, but considering the mounting points are all the same (I think) for a 420/430/M440/M4 and so on, I wonder how much effort it would be for BMW to have a couple different options of grills like the F150 has.

It would not be hard just as it would be very easy to have some optional displays on the speedometer and tachometer. But BMW seems to believe that tis designers (I use that term in jest) know better no matter what its customers say.

I mean, I'm not even talking a whole different bumper, just different fillers for the nostrils. Ie some with the little diamond inserts, some slatted like the M4, maybe one that's just mesh ala Lexus, etc.
