This video is really grainy but looks like a G80 was racing an E90 - hard to tell - but this is a spot I'm very familiar with, the highway is patchy and bumpy. My guess is the driver had the traction completely off and likely a RWD Comp?

Its beyond my comprehension how anyone cannot handle 500 hp on the highway.
Back in my younger days, I had a 2003 Viper which doesn't even come with traction control and has more torque and I've done countless track days with it, never spun out. My 22' GT500 has 760hp and no issues. It really is not that hard to keep it going straight. And I'm far from being a pro driver. |

The nannies are doing so much work keeping the power / yaw in check that if you never turn them off and start to work toward them safely just to see how the car reacts, when you turn them all off and maybe even put it in RWD mode (because you know, that's what the interwebz tell you will allow you to beat your buddy in a roll race on a public highway) then you get really caught out by what the car does when you spike it hard with power. I will tell you I am by far a pro driver. I have like 2 track sessions to my name. The third was on the 'Ring at high speed. In a BMW 230i with all the nannies off. I had an instructor right seat and was really cautious to approach the limits on such a big track. He kept laughing at me and even grabbed the wheel several times to get me over the limit...and I saw how benignly the car reacted. Really gave me more confidence to drive the car harder and feel what the car was doing. |

Not to mention the obvious that street racing is just dumb.
Other drivers are not expecting 2 cars going fast and weaving in and out of traffic. We didn’t get that far with this race but we still had an unexpected result which could have hurt someone. |

It’s worse than dumb, it’s criminal negligence. Involuntary manslaughter if someone dies and a long time in jail. This video evidence alone should result in hefty fines and possibly jail time and a revocation of license for a period of time.

But I do agree with you, I think if all m3 owners were subject to an M track day, you'll cut down on people spinning out. That was actually my first thought, not that the G80 crashed but that these dumb asses are racing on the highway with other cars. |

I will never understand why anyone turns off their stability and traction control to race… FROM A ROLL at that. That’s just stupid. If you crash like that, you CERTAINLY WILL NOT have the ability to control putting down the power better than the car’s electronics. 🙄

Looks like driver wants to total the G80.
What am I missing here did the driver stab the accelerator while attempting a lane change, with TC off. The dude lost the car on a straight ridiculous! My insurance renewal for May 2024 is up 39% and I have clean record WTF! |

It took me a few watches to notice, but it looks like that the crashee lined up with another BMW in the right lane (judging by the roundel, thanks sh!tty Teslacam) and it looks like they both punch it because while the middle lane bro is busy wrecking, the car in the right lane starts to pull a gap on our camera car. Hard to notice when you are focused on the next coming of John Force sliding his car into a barrier while in traffic but I think that's what happens. Watching it again, I see what actually happens is that they both slow quite a bit.....enough so that the 4Runner in the center lane behind captain safety actually brakes, and also the Tesla camera car closes the gap on the BMW in the right lane. Then the gap opens again as they both punch it......and our dude punches the barrier. |

I'm in the Biz and I can certainly confirm that, along with a ramp-up in nuisance break-ins, joy rides, etc.
I did an unscientific guesstimate of the percentage of new quotes I ran a couple of years back (and prior), and decided that approx 30% of them had prior claims/tickets on their record, so maybe just a bit less than one in three. In the last eighteen months I'd say that number is a solid 80%, no joke. Some of these are "shared responsibility" or no-fault accidents, but that simply means other dopes are crashing into them at a higher rate obviously. Ticket history is way up too. Speeding, running lights, reckless driving, etc. I don't expect it to get better anytime soon, based on what I'm seeing out on the highways . Also, with the amount of people in front of me repeatedly crossing lines or nailing mailboxes because they can't lift their Neanderthal craniums away from their phones for more than a second, I'm fairly certain we're in for a future where monthly insurance premiums begin to eclipse car payments. |

unless you're an experienced driver that knows how to control a car, I've never understood mapping the M buttons to DSC OFF for "sporty driving".
in my limited experience on track, the DSC is an invisible genie/angel keeping you in control, with a moderate tax on performance. When I turned off DSC, I very easily lost control and once did a near 360. |
