Anybody tempted by a 330e?

My next car might have to be a hybrid, depending on the outcome of some 'domestic' conversations.

The 330e looks like a plausible option. Anyone tempted to get one? Are they available to drive yet?

I'm liking the look of the boosted power output compared with the F30 hybrid, and what looks like a KERS system. Any thoughts?

G20 330e not released in the UK yet, I don't think it's a radical step over the outgoing F chassis version in terms of electrical range and power though.

I definitely would be, but only in touring format if they do one. Electric range will be double current car, which will make a pretty decent improvement, and allow most local journeys and weekend use to be pure electric.

The way company car BIK rates look now I think PHEVs are the only sensible option. Any typical 2 litre diesel compact exec option is now around a £400 per month tax liability for a higher rate tax payer.

I agree that range is key. We regularly drive to Germany, so careful journey planning will still be needed, though.

Why? It's a hybrid, so you can refuel like a normal car. We use our current 330e quite happily for long journeys to Scotland.

Alright,

I've lived with a F30 330e now for 3 years as a company car. As a company car it makes sense, but I don't think the benefits are good enough for private ownership.

You need to make some sacrifices - boot space, tiny fuel tank, bad MPG when driving motorway, you can feel the battery weight in corners, the instant torque can make the car wheel spin at the lightest throttle at junctions in the wet or when roads are greasy.

I did over 50k miles in mine on long journeys and only got around 34mpg (my S3 8V does 40mpg on the same journeys at same pace).

If the configurator is anything to go by, you can't get the car without run flats and it has no M Sport Diff (haven't had that confirmed but looks that way)

I have ordered a G20 330i and will be happy to pay the extra 180 ish a month on company car tax to enjoy driving again.

If it's private purchase, do the 330i or 330d IMO.

I'm going to have a redundant charging point outside my house now, but hey!

A small tank, extra weight and poor mpg on a long-distance run don't sound very attractive.

Its a pain, fortunately mine was a company car. If I had my own money in hand Id have a 330d or hopefully theyll release a 335d in the G20? My bro has a F30 335d X Drive M Sport and its decent on fuel and quick.

My wife does a 110 mile round commute in ours and we are averaging 45mpg, with just charging in the evening, and even last week going from oxford to Perth we did 40mpg, so your consumption sounds high to me. Not disputing it, and I guess we all have different driving styles.

The small tank is a right pain though!

We were looking at the new E300de from Mercedes, which has a 2litre Diesel engine and a 64 litre tank along with 30miles from the batteries... range in that could be 800miles!

That would be annoying I can get over 800 miles on a run in my diesel, I think a diesel hybrid would make sense with a DPF/Adblue and 40 odd miles on electric it would be very efficient and "clean"

Yeah, that would be good, they'd have to get it below 50g of Co2 to get the great company car tax.

Mercedes have the Eclass estate diesel hybrid available now. We had a look at them last week but decided it's just too big. The C class will have the same drivetrain shortly too. 30 miles electric range, 300bhp, though a bit lardy.... an ideal car for us to have alongside the M4 in our household. I'd have thought that a genuine 70-80 mpg would be possible.

The E class also still has a proper sized fuel tank so you'd possibly get 1000 miles from a tank!

One of the guys in the company has the first c350e, not AMG line. Think he has the same complaints as my F30 330e, mostly small tank and rubbish mpg. Maybe the new 330e and C350e will give you the MPG you need. My 330e has put me right off hybrids for at 3 years (until my company car is renewed).

I'm happy with the mpg we get from our 330e though, typically 43-45mpg from most tanks. The range is the one thing I'd really want to improve, but seems that needs the larger cars to do, or this diesel option.
