Cold Start Engine Noise

The car had been running for a little over a minute in this footage. I hear the usual DI noise but there's another noise captured as well. it almost sounds as if something is rubbing. Does it sound healthy to you?

That is a concerning sound to me. Definitely not normal. Can't guess what it might be, but I would certainly get it to the dealer to investigate under warranty.

greekcs Sorry to revive this old thread - did you get any information in what that sound might be ? I have the exact same sound on a new 240i - also with B58TU

hayko_M340 - 2500 miles. I've done a break-in oil change and moved from 0W-20 to 0W-30. Both weights are allowed as per my owner's manual , and it respects the BMW Longlife 12-FE standard.

Mine was making this same noise a few months ago, about 29K at the time. Took a video of it to show the SA on my next service visit, but it hadn’t resurfaced since. If I recall, a bit of driving made it go away.

I brought it in last week but they couldn't reproduce the sound. or so they said. It occurs on cold days only until the car reaches operating temperature.

I have noticed the same noise in my 40i. It appears to only happen during remote starts when cold. Today when I started normally, I did not hear the noise, but during remote starts it does it almost always. It is not as loud as your car, but it is the same noise.
