Long cracks appeared in nearside front window

Happened today at some point during a 50 mile motorway journey. I cannot remember any noises or stone chips during the trip. Just wanted to know if anyone has had experience of anything like this please? By the way BMW don't want to know - just referred to Autoglass for an insurance repair ( with£140 excess payment)

I've never come across a more useless windscreen. Not fit for purpose. It is the most easily scratched/broken windscreen that I've ever come across. I can't even use my wipers as they are intended for use or my new replacement windscreen would be ruined with scratches just like my first one that BMW did replace for me.

The local Autoglass agent replaced my side window this morning in about 20 minutes. He said he'd " done quite a few of these"! No obvious reason for the cracks found.

Someone was saying that the factories don't just lack microchips at the moment, but steel, aluminium, glass, etc.

Sounds to me like they might be skimping on glass quality to keep things moving here.🤔🤦

Had 2 front windscreens cracked in the last couple of years on G20's, had 0 cracked windscreens in the previous 9 years on other models, could just be a coincidence...

There are a lot of coincidences then! I haven’t had a screen crack in over 20 years and had one on my G21 already.

It was me who supplied the information about the factories sourcing material which had been mentioned to me!

I'd be surprised if it was a quality issue as that could potentially open up a host of legal issues. It might be that things aren't built to last like they were many years ago which we see in all areas. Mrs.bmnut's previous washing machine lasted nye on 20 years (and 20 hard years of life at that) it finally packed up when the drum split and a replacement part was never going to be available, the replacement lasted 5 before it lunched itself!
