Steering wheel noise
Has anyone else noticed a noise from the steering wheel when turning in tight places like parking
Sounds like its rubbing on mine somewhere |

My steering makes a noise in the cabin, bit like something offering resistance to the turn motions.
Very similar (though not as loud) to the noise the games consoles steering wheels used to make. I assumed it was down to the fact there must be gearing on the column somewhere to perform the auto parking / lane assist operations.

Yes mine has sometimes. I would describe it as if thick rubber bands where wrapped round the steering column. I assumed it was done to the steering intervention.

I had a noisy one as well when I took a test drive back in June. I kept thinking that if it was mine I would have asked for it to be fixed under warranty. Couldn't believe that this was happening on a £50k car.

I mentioned this to the dealer just the other day and the senior tech said it was apparent on every one he's driven so far.
On mine slow turning movements of the steering wheel doesn't seem to reveal the noise but turning the steering wheel slightly quicker does seem to generate the noise, anyone else noticing similar to me? |

Maybe I’ve just become accustomed to the noise if it is still present and don’t notice it anymore! One thing I do recall is when I pointed it out to the dealer it didn’t concern them that it was a fault as such so nothing to worry about but annoying all the same! It always sounded to me like a rubber bush maybe that was possibly ‘dry’ at the upper part of the steering column? |

So been listening more intently for this noise as promised and have to say haven’t heard a thing. So either I’m just lucky with this car so far or BMW have quietly modified the ‘bush’ and as per usual said nowt to anybody hoping this particular issue will just go away.
It would be interesting if it were possible to find out if the genuine BMW part number for as we suspect the upper steering wheel bush has been changed which more often than not indicates a part has been modified? |
