I think buying used is generally a good idea, especially when the car is just a couple years old. But at 45k miles in a BMW? Only justifiable in some M car you're not going to daily drive.
I've heard reliability has improved since the times of the E-chassis models, but that many miles in a BMW just seems to be asking for trouble.
