That sucks, sorry man. I would file a complaint with the service manager. I know it won't do much but it sends a message to bmw

Ye it's very unfortunate. Only option I have is too bootmod because the advisor even said you cant revert they cant do anything about it. Only the bad thing is if something goes really bad on the car and I take jt in for fixing, it won't pass through

Bootmod3 will give u burbles, maybe slightly louder if it's running more boost. Why don't u get a downpipe, it's questionable if they will cover something depending on what goes wrong, but Bm3 will definitely get flagged and denied. Also, u could always use Bootmod3 later if u want, and have the ability to go stage 2 with the downpipe.

Does updating software will also reduce pops and bangs on a 2018 year m40i model ?

Apparently the new x3 m40 and z4 m40 still pop even with the newest models, it only seems to be the m340i models that aren't the hybrid that came with the pops and are now having them slowly tuned out with the updates.

like i mentioned in another thread, i just got .67 installed on my '21. Whatever dignity my car had its now gone. No low burbles or random pops. I have to punch it hard and let off quick to get a low burble. Its a shame.

It is mentioned here several times that 20 and 21 model pops will go with update. I'm interested is 18 model is safe or not.

Also can i downgrade back if i update to new software ?

If u check in ur my bmw app, u can see all available updates and which ones have been done. I have July 2020 showing as completed, the second one skipped and the last one available but will also be skipped.

Interestingly, I bought this 2020 in February as a demo, but the dealer hadn't done any updates to it, even tho it had been sitting at there lot for almost 3 months. He did tell me to put it into sport mode and said about how great it sounded, so maybe they are aware the updates were removing some of the aggression.

I looked in the app and found the area to turn off remote updates but don't see anything showing history. Am I missing something? Do I have to wirelessly connect my phone to the car to see this?

I sent an e-mail to the following at BMW:

Anthony.Cavanaugh@bmwna.com,
Rich.Powers@bmwna.com,
Shaun.Bugbee@bmwna.com,
Bernhard.Kuhnt@bmwna.com,
customerrelations@bmwusa.com

Complaining about the detuned exhaust note. Just spoke with a representative who informed me that it was a "regulatory change", and there was no way to A) roll back to an earlier iDrive version, B) coming to all "M" model cars.

I have requested a monetary credit to help offset the purchase of the MPE for my 2020 M340I.

I would suggest anyone having the same issues to do the same. Very quick turn-around, less than 6 hours.

Will MPE bring more pops and bangs? I order mine yesterday and will have it installed next week.

Garage List
hey guys,
quick question for european owners, my car was produced 06/2020 (so not a MHEV), sound is quite weak, so i was wondering if the new software update would help. so far i am running 03/2020.40, dont know if this (for EU) is where the car has at least some burble, or its already the version that only can get better with updates..

Hi. Earlier today I updatetd my M340i which was made 12/2019. It is unbelieveable but the exhaust sound is way better now. You can hear pops and burble again, especially while downshifting around 5000 rpms. It is interesting because I was avoiding this update for 4 months, but this update made car even better. My car is EU version.

I dont think I've heard of anyone in NA claiming the update on there 2019/2020 improved anything, but actually toned down or removed the burbles.
Unless someone can say otherwise?

Well i was also trying to avoid this update, because everyone saying, that it reduces exhaust noise. But then i met my friend, who has M340i 10/2019 a he got lattest update. We try to rev our car and his exhaust sound was way better, basicly what i have now after update. So i think that for EU version, this update can help. I will make video next week with my gopro while driving.

I have EU M340i, 2021.50 OTA update reduced the exhaust burbles significantly, but dealer installed update to 03/2021.57 brought them back, exhaust sounds really good now (not like US versions though, but you get the point…)

Did you email all of them at once or separately? Did you get a monetary credit?
