Just following up on my last post regarding the pops. Took the car out for a spirited drive last Saturday. Spirited meaning a bunch of us went out on a cruise with a buddy who owns a McLaren and said "he'd go easy". He did go easy, except the rest of us who needed an extra second to hit 80 lol.

But, car in Sport+, and hammering the pedals through some back roads, pops/bangs are definitely still there. You just gotta reach for them rather than before when the car will dump pops on a whim.

Same here, did a spirited run in Sport Plus tonight and there are some subtle pops here and there. Def more overrun pops when the exhaust warms up a bit.

I know that some have complained, especially for the 2020 models, that the latest updates have neutered the sound, but has anyone found that it cut back on performance at all either?
I've got an appointment next Wednesday for the braking system recall, was wondering bout doing a before and after draggy test.

Good to know. Hey how does the M340 compare to the Q50RS?

M340 to Q50RS? Not even close. Like light years and a couple moons apart from each other. I really wanted to love the Q50. The engine was cool, but the vehicle they built around it ruined the car as a whole. It was my first time in a "luxury" class vehicle, so at the time I thought the amenities and the "sports car" drivetrain were great. The F30 340 I got after the Q50 corrected a lot of what I perceive as luxury these days, and the M340 is just builds upon that.

The employee informed me that bmw was trying to make 1 software version that meets compliance for all countries rather than having different codes. This is why they muted the 21 and reduced the sound of 20 because some countries have regulations on sounds. Apparently he was extremely pissed off about this and sent an angry email to Germany about this. Don't quote me on this but he said that bmw will be coming out with a fix because they could face a class action lawsuit. He's not sure when but they plan to resolve the issue and bring back the loud pops in the 20 and make them way louder on the 21 which is great news. The locked ecu is of course still an issue as well but he didn't have anything to say about it. If they could revert and fix the pops and bangs, I know a lot of owners would be thrilled. Figured I'd share the info with those curious or frustrated. I think if we apply more pressure on bmw to fix these things we can see the improvements we want.
No way they're going to release an update to make the car louder. I have a '21 and would love that but I just don't see that ever happening. Any non-enthusiasts would be running to the dealerships thinking something was broken.
First, None enthusiast wouldn't buy m340i in the first place.

Second, even if they do by accident. They never turn on sport mode.

I mean, it's the 3 series with a bigger engine. It's not like they're buying an M3...

You need an early 2020 model for full pops. Later production 2020s and MY21 cars have a different exhaust note. There is nothing that can be done as all those cars have the locked ECU. The only tunable cars already have the old exhaust characteristics
May 2019 build here , pops and bangs galore…
Define early 2020, my June 2020 build has pops and bangs galore even on the latest 7/21 update
