7/2021.20 Software update installed Anything to Report?)

Got the 7/2021.20 update installed yesterday. I know it just was released the other day by BMW NA, and figure very few have it installed at this point, but wanted to see if anybody has found or knows of any major changes or updates to report about?

Was told it squashed many bug fixes including Alexa fault messages, heads up stuff, HK audio, Drivers assist pro etc.

We all remember last years July update was quite significant with Android auto etc

Please chime in this could reveal some cool stuff!

Can't say for the '21s but I know the '20s are trying to avoid the 3/2021.50 update like the plague.

Just got the notice for this particular update. I own a 2020. Should I be worried? I’d love to hear feedback from other 2020 owners who performed the upgrade.

There's a few threads, namely a big one in the Engine modification section. Word is that the update neutered some of the exhaust burbles that we've come to know and love. I got the notification this morning for 3/2021.50, but figured out I could disable the Remote Software Upgrade function altogether to stay on 11/2020.50.

I got a 3/2021.56 ota update months back.. Seems like that was full of glitches. So far i think the 7/2021 fixes them, and most likely adds some new goodies.Time will tell.

I’m currently on 11/2020.50 and I think I’ll keep it that way for now.

I swear that my exhaust has been quieted down compared to whatever software I was running back in December 2019 when I bought the car. It seemed to be so much more livelier back then.

Absolutely. Best to avoid this, especially if you have a '20 and care about the acoustics. Out of interest, how did you go about disabling the update function? If turned off 'auto download' on the My BMW app, but could find an equivalent option on the car's on-screen menu when it comes to remote software settings. Any advice about how to block these things would be gratefully received!

Sure thing. If you go into:

Car > Settings > General Settings > Data Privacy

And select the option for "Individual Selection", you should get a menu where it lists off all the different options. One of them is Remote Software Upgrade. Unchecking the box disables the function on iDrive and stops the prompting.

Brilliant--I really appreciate the guidance. The route through the settings now seems completely logical, of course; but the system itself rather buries that route, hardly making the optionality via-a-vis updates self-evident, since it doesn't situate the disabling function alongside the remote software info/download prompt. Anyway, thanks. I've now turned it resolutely off!

The car just downloaded and I installed 03/2021. I will disable the downloads until better data appears.

2019 330i burbles are all but gone! Can any of those piggyback systems bring them back?

I'm now getting the Rough Road Ahead messages in the HUD so the car must have updated. I haven't noticed any other changes, but I've only been in the car about a half hour since the update. Exhaust note seems to be the same (M440i always driven in Sport+ mode).

I updated to 07/2021.50 and no change in exhaust. I have the MPE on my M440ix. I also disabled the rough road app- didn't see that useful here.

Best to avoid all this is to call BMW and turn off your Connected Drive subscription until further notice. I bring the money to my honey so she doesn't need to know why a blonde hair ended up on the second row. As for the upgrade, I'm good with my X7 "straight out of the dealership" software version.

That is a new App and not part of iDrive. It was pushed out during the regular Apps and Services update.
