Direct gateway is much preferred vs. store and forward, but BMW probably plans to do frequent OTAs, and the GB's(one poster says $2-4/GB to deliver to car) start to pile up.

But then savings $2-4/GB seems to be subpar reason to waste customer's time.

I think the dealership did something when they had to replace my steering rack for the squeaky steering wheel bug (still squeaks). Remote start no longer works and I noticed small things like having to hold the trunk button longer. The infotainment screen no longer craps out. CarPlay still stops working on long drives and I have to reboot my phone.

I have to take it back in. The M440 is a blast to drive, but buggy as hell.

Totally @ cost savings vs customer experience. Maybe if they receive enough complaints from customers they might reconsider or otherwise streamline the process to make it much easier.

The extra 30 minutes I spent costed me a lot more than $2-4.

As far as streamlining, I have yet to figure out why it needed both bluetooth and wifi to upload to car.

I think BMW has the right idea but the implementation needs to be looked at.

It is impossible for an average driver to figure all that out on their own.

They need to try to take the phone out of the OTA process. if the file size is too big for a typical OTA download, then let the car connect to home wifi and download it to the car directly.

Treat it just like a update you get for your phone.

I have the same squeaky steering, but whatever, i am used to it. #racecar.

I think they did it on purpose with the longer hold time, so you dont accidentally press it in your pocket. I am glad because I had accidentally opened my last 340i's trunk many times when the key was in my pocket.

My Android auto has been working flawlessly since day 1. No complaint there. But i do loose my bass and surround sound once in a while tho.

Installed the update last night at home. Haven't had much driving time since but similar to the last update, something has changed with the throttle mapping even within the same settings I had before. Seems to hold on to gears longer though I haven't changed a thing.

Thank You! I thought I was losing my mind. I upgraded today and instantly noticed the shifts. The car seems faster. I will have to test that. Exhaust note (fake) seems different.


It was simple btw. notified on my phone, downloaded to my phone, drove to work transferred to the car (all in the background) and when I got out, upgrade was done. Simple. Wiped all my codes thought.

Thank you for confirming what I discovered. No one else confirmed this as far as I know so I too thought it was just me.

As for the issues I had at the time, it won't be a problem moving forward when the next update comes out. I simply saw some conflicting information about the method of executing the update and was a bit confused. In the end it worked out but I'd still rather have a direct download to the car like my first update rather than downloading it to my phone and then transferring to the car. Just seems like an extra step that's not necessary.

The OTA is pushing out 07/2021.50. The latest version is 11/2021.xx.

Installed it Today it took about 20 mins to complete. I have not driven yet I just made sure it would start up after the install completed.

I got a request through the app to update my software to 7/2021.50. I ran the update. I’ve never done an update before. Big problems ensued. My car would not start, I had to have it towed to the dealership. Two days and they haven’t figured out the problem.

In two days they have not figured out what happened when you updated? They could wipe and push an update in 4-5 hours at the dealership. Was the car stock? Maybe your case is rare and they want to document it. Seems strange.

The SW version in IDrive says 07/2021.62.

I’m assuming that’s the most updated version.
Is that correct?

Yes it’s very strange, I don’t think the update completed. But I can’t tell. Car is only 7 months old. Dealer has been trouble shooting it for two days. It would not start, yet I had complete power to everything except start/stop, odometer. And it was stuck in park.

Hi all. I've just downloaded the latest BMW upgrade 07/2021.85 to my phone. I'm now getting a message that the car will let me know when the software can be installed. No matter what I try the software won't install. Has anyone else come across this issue.

It will take awhile to transfer between your phone and the car. Just make sure it is connected and drive as normal. After two hours or so of driving it should be transferred. It will start and stop as you are driving so no need to do it all in one stretch.

Thanks for the response, I was under the impression that it had already transferred as I watch it happen. That was around a week ago now and still it won't install. I'll keep an eye on it.

Okay, I took from your post that you just did it. If it already transferred a week or so ago then it is likely the battery issue keeping it from installing. If that is the case then all batteries need to be completely charged in order for it to install. Some folks were able to get the install going by putting their's on a charger for a few days. I tried on mine but it didn't help. After a few months I got a screen saying that I needed to go to the dealer to enable the remote update functionality. I will do that when I take it in for an oil change.

I hadn't noticed this, but it's a welcomed change given how many times my trunk would open with the key in my pocket at work. For those who don't like it, it might can be adjusted via coding

Oh really. I was nervous that it may have been a battery issue as that's what I'd read. Thanks for your help.
