M340i xdrive wireless charging tray (w/NFC?)
Hi everyone,
I just got off the phone with my local BMW dealer trying to order the wireless charging tray for my M340i. I didn’t get it as an option when I ordered it. They pointed me to the shopbmwusa website as the only resource for parts…long story short, they said that the part cannot be retrofitted. I found this: https://www.bmwpartspros.com/oem-par...MtMGwtbDYtZ2Fz Part: 84-10-5-A1D-B18 Has anyone done this and if so how hard is it? Do you lose the NFC capability (start car with the card)? Do you think the dealer will install it if I bring it to them? Any information you might have is appreciated! Thanks |

Don't even bother with the wireless charging tray, it's a cheap charger that overheats phones and is slow. Totally not worth it. There's been discussions on this here in the past too, save the money and just use the plug in.

I'd strongly recommend against the charger as well. I have it, but I've resorted to buying one of the Apple Magsafe charging cables and just use that. As said, it barely charges the phone and generates a lot of heat. I've had it completely overheat the phone to the point of powering it off on a few occasions. I've even tried multiple phones and still have the same issue.

It really is kinda useless. As already mentioned, it's slow and heats your phone up. And that's if you're lucky enough to have your phone actually stay in place to charge. I do like it for long trips where I'm using Waze, as the phone always stays charged. And less wires is always a bonus.
But yeah, I don't think it's worth the hassle of adding it yourself. I look at it as an option people get because new cars are supposed to have wireless charging, not because it's super useful. |

My daughter really wanted it so I had to go after market. This is powered off the 12V with a neat connection. So far so good. Here is a link to what I had posted. https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1856101

The BMW factory wireless charger and Wi-Fi was the worst option I've ever had in any car. Hands down.

I ordered this and I'm pretty happy with the fit & finish. It looks stock and retains the NFC card access because it hinges up. I've never ordered anything from Ali express before but I received it a couple weeks after ordering it.

I have the factory wireless charger in my car. It's not the fastest but haven't noticed any heat or had issues with phone sliding. 2021 M340i (Canada).

I have the stock charging pad with nfc. It works perfectly with our Google Pixel phones. They don't overheat..hardly get warm. It also charges the phone when using Android Auto.. No complaints at all.
The overheating of some phones is a phone design problem..not a car problem. |

I have the factory wireless charger and haven't experienced any overheating issues with an iPhone 12, in fact it works well when I use it and find it quite a handy feature

Weird. I had the 12 Pro Max and now the 13 Pro Max, and both phones have the same issue. Wonder if there's just a bad batch of chargers?

I have the OE charging pad sitting on a shelf in my garage. I went back to the standard NFC pad due to slow charging/overheating.

Just retrofitted this on my G80 M3 using part number 84-10-5-A1D-B18 (cost $150)
Literally took me 20 mins to fit, just need plastic trim removal tools, and a hex screwdriver, some photos: Wireless charging and NFC both work. I tested my iPhone digital key start engine, and the credit card digital key start engine. Just need to code in the forgot phone reminder via the Bimmercode app (for when you leave the phone on the charger), which I will do on the weekend.

At least on the G30, so I think it applies here too on the G20, the Wireless charger also makes use of a signal booster that is only activated when the phone is in the wireless charger. So not completely useless...
But I don't know if it would be worth retrofitting. It was free on my G30 at the time. |

Also works perfectly fine for me. Using a Galaxy S21 ultra. Phone doesn't overheat and it receives a decent charge. It's not a fast charger by any means, but it works well for me.
