BMW in year 2002 : The whole concept of iDrive is no need of touchscreen, the iDrive knob does everything and anything.
Customers in year 2021 : We will cancel our orders if no touchscreen!!!!!! |

I wish that people like you stop saying that COVID-19 has nothing to do with worldwide supply logistics and manufacturing problems.

I ordered my M440 GC last week, got a production number, and according to dealer set to go into production mid Nov, hoping it isn’t affected but based on it being all current orders I’m not optimistic.

The dealer wants me to come in and play with I drive without the touchscreen and see if I like it or not. I’ll try on Tuesday. My 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a touch screen. A ‘22 BMW won’t? That’s insanity.

Well just found out I'm in the same boat. My build for a 330 is scheduled for next week. After reading this I called the BMW Genius who informed me my car was affected. No notification from BMW or my dealer about it, in fact I called my dealer after finding out and they knew nothing about it. Pretty poor in my opinion for BMW not to have notified me on the MY Garage build site or a simple email. And $500 credit ? That seems like adding insult to injury.

True, except if you compare the iDrive 7 GUI to original iDrive or even iDrive 4, it's easy to see how the later generations of iDrive were designed with touchscreen taken into account. There's a lot more on screen these days and I suspect it will require quite a bit of controller twirling and pushing to navigate some screens and menus.

I still have power seats but the guy above makes a good point about the actual functionality of the idrive system with/without touchscreen. Makes a lot of sense to me. I’m still going to head to the dealer on Monday and check it out only w the knob but I’m pretty apprehensive about spending that kind of money on a car with tech from mid 2000s.
