Decision: 2020 M340i or 2022 M340i (Lease)
Hey guys -- I could use some expert advice here.
Debating on: Financing: 2020 M340i 45k miles OR Leasing: 2022 M340i I've driven a friend's 20' and it was amazing. I've not test drove a 22' yet, but I'm assuming the experience will be similar? Miles aren't an issue and price isn't either. Thoughts? |

Tough decision. Me, I want new... but you may have all sorts of factors that influence your decision that we aren't privy to.
First, can you even get a good deal on leasing a new one? Can you find one with the options you want? If you haven't looked lately, BMW has been removing options like crazy and snapping up the 2020 might be a good idea. |

Leasing options are terrible right now. ~800/m for an M340i. This time last year I was getting offers for low $600s. I get it, the chip shortage is real, but I'm not shelling out that much. Maybe for an M3. I heard the 20's were a true gem and are worth grabbing. |

Bought a 2020 m340i myself for $52K but was only 14K miles and xdrive. I'd be wary of 45K miles because you're breathing down the neck of the 50K warranty cut-off. You should be able to find a 2020 example with a good deal less miles on it.

I agree with this. At 45k miles $51k sounds overpriced. If I was going to buy a two year old BMW with 45k miles on it I’d want it to be CPO’d. At the very least I’d shop hard for a good exclusionary extended warranty.

Used car market these days is seriously weird. I bought my '20 M340i xDrive about a year and two weeks ago for $53500, with 8K on the ticker. Just about all the fixings, minus adaptive suspension and the HK speakers, sticker was around $70K.
The 20s would be worth it just cause it's the pre-COVID build so nothing held back. Any chance you can hold out for a better deal?

I'd get the 2022, assuming the lease terms aren't too ridiculous.
The 2020s do sound a lot better, but not enough to sway me to a car with 45K (most likely flogged) miles on it.

Buying used might be a better choice since there are no options removed and they sound better.

I test drove the 20' and was impressed (again). I'm probably going to lease a 22' though.
To me it doesn't make sense to pay $48k (got the dealer down a bit) for something with 45k miles. Warranty ends 6/24. How different is the exhaust note on the newer models? Is it THAT drastic? |

Seriously, I think all these greenhouse gases are going to our heads! It's your Rice Krispies that are supposed to snap, crackle and pop, not your car! Either the Fast & the Furious had much more impact than those films possibly deserved or else everybody's just flippin' out. And that's said as owner of a 2020, the farty exhaust sounds of which I couldn't care less about.

20 is Made in Germany. 22 is made in Mexico! Plus the options in 20 might bebetter such as m adaptjve Suspension which doesnt exist in 22's. My mechanic revved up my 20 inside his shop. It was glorious

Just took home a '22 with MPE and of course YMMV but I just remarked to my wife it might actually be TOO loud. Amazing sound.
Meanwhile 45k Miles in two years is nuts - with two fewer years on the warranty, I wouldn't be interested at that price point. I had very minor issues with feature deletions - only passenger lumbar support? Still have HK audio and touchscreen. Also, Mexico factory is state of the art. I don't really understand the argument in favor of German builds. Maybe M cars? |
