I have found that the xHP brings back all of the 'fake burbles' but makes them legitimate through the exhaust by the way. There are some occasional loud pops/bangs but set to 0, I find it super fun. They are extremely mode dependent as well - basically they won't happen in comfort. . . It really works pretty idyllically. Highly recommend the xHP
you need an unlocked ECU for xHP though, correct? like any other tune?

No! Actually xHP you do not need bench unlock. I was amazed when I found out a few months ago. I did xHP and then sent ECU out 1 month later while I was on holiday, and I have the full lock down 2022 model ECU.

xHP can be done on a fully stock fully locked car as the transmission module is separate from the main ECU!

Highly recommend. I did a big writeup on this a few months ago I am on mobile now.but will link later.

No need for unlock at all for xHP, and I was in the same boat thinking this until the fall.

I think petiotion should be to open up headunit for coding and not just for ASD which does not bother me at all.

What exactly would you code if headunit was open?

ASD off, by the sounds of it for one, lol

For me, the most important easy codes are:
  • ASD 100% OFF
  • Auto Start/Stop OFF in all modes except ECO (which I only use if I'm almost out of gas lol)
  • Start Car in Sport Individual
  • Remove Disclaimers
  • Alter mirror tilt slightly to better see the curb
  • Remove "Driving Mode Change Notice" from center screen
  • B/O Sound Profile
  • Custom Color Lighting with 3 Zones (Purple, Blue, Red)

They are all pretty mild changes but overall they make a very significant improvement to my enjoyment of the car.

BMW cannot "Open Programming" to the Headunit because they use the same components in like 50+ different models around the world and most of the programming is actually just flat out installed in the ECUs.

TLDR - If you want to make your car better code it yourself.
