A BMW AG friend of mine just got to drive one of the M340i prototypes... he said it's AMAZING! Actually... he said it is THE machine!!

And what about the BMW Alpina incarnation of this model 😊?

I'm not saying they don't but like you said they're more economical to operate plus they're better for the environment as they pollute less due to less mass compares to SUVs.

We just don't have great options in the US. I'd like to have these available as a special order option but that's a pipe dream since they won't pay to federate it for the US. I'm just lamenting the fact we can't get them. Another reason to move to Europe.

I didn't think Mperformance was available on the North American F31. Best I could do was the MSport II on my 18 and then added the Mperformance brakes.

Don't forget the new Jag as well. It's sad that it's not coming to the US. I guess I will have my F31 for a LONG time then.

Jaguar has a sexy one too. There's the Volvo Polestar as well.

Nope. I don't see too many Germans driving large SUV's. Micro ones, yes. X1/X3's. The reason is most Germans park on the street. Try parking an X7 in your typical German parkhaus... it aint't gonna happen. Those park haus's have some tight up/down ramps!! And the parking spaces are small/tight.

I probably see two hundred 3er wagons for every X3 I see on the road. IF a German needs to haul something around... they deploy their car's trailer hitch and hook up a trailer to "do" the hauling job. The don't own huge trucks or SUV's when a car will suffice for 98% of the time.

Yup! I have the full M Performance kit installed on my M Sport F31 as well, including MP brakes and I also retrofitted the 335/340i MP exhaust. Only thing we can't do is MPPK.

This will likely be my solution down the line. Either E63 AMG or Porsche Panamera GT sport turismo.

Agree with you, sound is disappointing... very far from the sound of a simple S3 for example

Well, the reason they don't buy SUVs in same numbers as people in US is again the overall cost that comes with SUV size car. Everything is more expensive with larger cars: parking, car wash, oil change, gas, tires, etc. if cost wasn't a problem, you would see more of them, and regarding the parking specifically - there are still SUV on the roads and they do park somewhere, so.

I had a newish X3 as a loaner for several days recently. I was quite impressed with the performance of the latest version of the turbo-4 engine, but for the rest of it, the X3 was like piloting a canal barge. Couldn't wait to get my F31 back.

As for the latest 3er Touring that we do not get ("no soup for you"), I would even be happy with the turbo-4 version thereof.

Your comment is correct but not for all european countries. It is for example very true for the swiss market. (but the success of the X versions is not only due to a trend but also to the topography of the country).
Below you will see all BMW sales in Switzerland since 2006. See how the %age of X vs others evolved since then, impressive ! X versions are today more than 40% of the total BMW sales.
Although it is a small country (8 millions people), numbers in this market are very interesting because the country does not produce cars (so no bias due to people buying cars produced by "their" country) and swiss are big consumers of premium cars.
So even if X version are good sellers, we are lucky to have Touring versions 😊

I'm surprised that AutoBild says that the G21 will be introduced in Frankfurt in September (if I got it correctly - my German is bad !). Production is going to start in July so we can expect a press release soon.
