Funny how one has to sell (defend) the looks of it by saying it will grow on you.

When you see a car that's very pleasing aesthetically, it doesn't have to grow on you, you're wowed by it immediately.

Lol didn't BMW say that those are technically "real M cars" now? Either way, there's no way BMW could keep calling it the 335i or 340i. Mercedes has the C43 AMG and Audi has the S4. If BMW just kept the 335i name they'd probably lose a ton of sales from people just assuming the AMG and S are better and more upmarket.

Can you fix the headlights and make the kidneys a little more narrow while you're at it? Curious if that would make a difference.

looks goofy.

Not a fan of the parting line running across the hood like it does on the F30. Looks cheap. It’s not like that on the current 3 series sedan.

I have to say these two fronts look nothing alike. Could we may be seeing two different vehicles? (4 Series - iNext?).

Even for non-M vs M the shapes are completely different.

Agreed with this. They are going to have a bunch of M3 and M4's overpriced and sitting on the lots next year. No one is going to want an overpriced sedan or coupe with an ugly grille. Plus these are regular production vehicles so they will of course depreciate fast. Maybe there will be a faster mid cycle refresh to fix the grille.

This is what I've been wondering. Are the production line spy shots being ignored here...?

As an aside, Scott, how is the mood in bmw these days for this grill? Optimistic? Blissful ignorance to the responses?

I’m hoping bmw have built a car worthy of the ///M3 badge, the G20 has earned excellent reviews, so things should be good for the top of the range cars. You’ve got to say there is a LOT of negative vibe about the big grille from owners and the motoring press - that has got to hurt sales at some point.

Apart from the grille the car is very generic, side profile is Audi, rear is Lexus, but god bless bmw for sticking with real exhausts. Interior wise bmw are behind their rivals layout/ displays. More concerning, next MB and Audi are going to be hybrids, M3 and M4’s will look like dinosaurs.

In a couple of years someone in bmw will ponder....’wtf were we thinking’.

My guess is that the 4 series (like the blue one in the other thread) will have a frame.

The M4/M3 will be frameless like the gray one in the spy-shot pic.

This is what happens when you see what they did to the front kidney grills.

Don't worry... in a few years they will release a M3 Concept Homage Anniversary addition with normal grilles, halogen halos, in a custom silver (but it will be called something fancy like Monaco Stone Pearl flake Competition Silver) ...it will be 175,000 Msrp.

When I look at the blue one with the tape I am not seeing a frame there. I could be wrong or wishful thinking.
