Question Do I need to remove GPF/OPF

Hi all,

I'm going to start down the performance mods of my car, and starting with a downpipe. I'm in the UK, so my model has an OPF/GPF. Do I NEED to get this removed or can I keep the OPF?

I'm thinking of going SportsCat rather than a Decat.

Can anyone advise of the Pros/Cons?

EU/UK M340's have an ADDITIONAL filter after the cat called a particulate filter for additional emissions control

*This is theory as OPF/GPF is not a thing in the US*

You should not NEED to remove the GPF, but I don't believe there is a MOT test for it on gas/petrol cars soooooo you know...one less blockage.

I would be more concerned about increased CO2 emissions, but you have 3 years *assuming you have a 2022*

Yeah, it’s gasoline engine particulate filter that reduces particulates in the exhaust. It’s a UK/Europe thing.

Unfortunately mine is 2019, so I need to consider MOT and emissions tests. Hoping someone from UK/EU who’s added a downpipe and knows more than me might be able to shed any light on whether removal is necessary or recommended etc - or whether I should keep it.

With a 200/300 Cell Downpipe you should Not have a Problem with keeping the OPF. At least until 500 HP

Perfect, thank you. If I have to keep it for MOT/Emissions then I doubt I’ll be going above 500 then. To be honest it would be good to even get close to that number.

I’ll have to get a downpipe with sports cat that fits, then work out what my next mod would be. Any tips?

Geht a 300 Cell Downpipe from HJS or a 200 Cell from Friedrich-Motorsport. After that go for Bench Unlock and tune it with MHD.

My local garage is suggesting using MTC Motorsport one, think it's a 200 Cell High Flow Cat Downpipe. And the price they are quoting seems great value. I was tempted to go VRSF, but they don't seem to do one for OPF cars. That HJS looks decent, but I don't know anyone local to me who can source and fit those. Most garages seem to have their own preferences on supplier.

It's already had a remap so think it must be unlocked. The garage said the tuning was using 'MCAL', saying we can run switchable maps and its a calibration on a rolling road etc, not just some third party software they buy in.
