The hood, headlights and grill all appear to me to be very much from the concept car and the same as the new 4 series cars, which of course are based on the i4 concept car. The rear appears to be a trunk, not a hatch, as the deck cut runs up to the edge of the rear glass with no surround to support a hatch glass. With the hood as high as it is, I wonder if there is a decent sized “frunk” supplementing a rear trunk.
To me the the rear side glass looks messy as it extends into the roofline, like the faux window on the side rear of the Cadillac CT-5. I assume it is about rear cabin space but it looks too long. |

I mean the radio's on.. it's just, hitting the throttle of a vehicle and hearing nothing but a silent wine isn't appealing at all to me. It's pretty much the exact opposite of what I want to experience when driving.
In a full EV, obviously there's no way to get the authentic sound of an ICE, but an artificial recreation of it is fine by me. I honestly don't care if transmission shift sounds are completely bogus in terms of physical oscillations, so long as it sounds good I'm in. Think of it this way, if you were to play a driving arcade game, would you want the engine to be on mute? Would you want the game to have no engaging sound when you press the pedal? Maybe it's not important to most drivers but for me (and I'd assume most enthusiasts) without sound there's no way I'm dipping into my wallet for an EV over an ICE. I trust BMW will make an incredible full EV ///M experience though. So I'm stoked to see what's upcoming in the Electrified division.

So looking over this set of photos and some of the earlier ones posted of the non-M version of this car, there are some differences visible through the camo. If you look fender crease right over the headlights, that's a contour that either was really well covered up on the prior test mules, or it points to a different set of front fenders. I also don't believe that the standard 4 series has this crease and it's much closer to resembling the M3/M4. Similarly, the earlier models didn't have the rear fender extensions, and these are similar to what some of the early M3 test mules ran.
I'd guess either the entire GC lineup is wider than the other 4 series, or that this specific model shares some body work with the rumored M4 GC. That would be a massive win in my book.

I think it would be a big mistake to slap the M label on this and not give the M3 a run for its money.
Simply because it wouldn't look good to have the Tesla 3 easily beat the M version of the competing BMW electric model. And to beat the Tesla 3 means BMW needs to be on par or better performance than the M3... I wouldn't worry about effecting sales of the M3 if i4M is priced higher and lots of M buyers still won't consider electric even if it has better performance. |
