You're not alone

Send it back to your dealer, and be stern about it. Unfortunately, the tie rod recall didn't fix ours. Auto Bavaria finally decided to replace the entire steering rack this time. Let's see...

Yup. March 2023 production.

I found the exact same sound in another 2021 pre-LCI M340i and a 2020 pre-LCI 330i. I'm a detailer so I have access to all sorts of BMWs.

Just got a call from AB (Ara Damansara) today. They finally replaced the entire steering rack, another set of tie rod ends, and cross-checked all suspension components. Will report back. Fingers crossed

Car is back. Knocking sound still there when going over speed bumps. Other than that, it's liveable.

Gosh, u mean after change of steering rack and the sound is still there?
I just sent mine in to AB- SG besi 2 days ago. They said they will try changing the tie-rod first but not the steering rack….will see. Can’t enjoy the car yet 😪

OK, the sound is back in full force.

Same knocking sound all over again. Yes AB claimed a change of the steering rack and tie rods.

Fingers crossed for you. Let's see...

Damn, that’s bad for a new car experience. Such a hassle going back and forth. Will update as well. Thanks

Same on my 23 LCI 330i. Only mild clunk/knock when crawling to a stop over very small bumps/imperfections. Very sporadic and does not happen at normal or high speeds. I’m just leaving it for now unless it gets worse.

Just got mine out from the service centre and they changed the tie rod. The knocking sound is back after 3-4 days of city drive 😤😤
Has anyone gotten this issue fixed actually?

Some guy in the m340i fb group got his sway bar link replaced and said it fixed the issue. Going to push my dealership to try that fix.

So he actually only had the issue when driving the car at low speeds, whereas mine makes noise even when turning the wheel side to side while stationary. I’m starting to doubt if replacing the sway bar links would actually fix my issue. His was also replaced because the sway link had seized. But whatever knocking issue he was having has been rectified so.

I’ll be taking my car back to the dealership at the end of the month because my moonroof is crackling like crazy again so I will report back.

I have same problem back after changing the left and right tie rod. I hear the noise only at low speed when passing uneven road surface. Did the problem solve after changing the sway bar? Thanks

Same issue - knocking sound drivers side slow speed on flat surfaces. But goes away after driving 15-20mins. I haven't done anything to fix the issue and the car is basically bone stock.

I still haven't been able to get my car into service for this because they have so few loaners at the moment, but I talked with someone at BMW NA and registered the issues. I'd recommend filing a complaint so they have a good sense of how widespread this issue seems to be.

Welp, just heard back... had a strut replaced. Very disappointed that a car would need that at 4000 miles.

After changing just the left tie rod, clunk was back after just a couple of miles. Went back to the service and they changed the right one too. Now the car has been dead silent for +1000miles, two weeks after replacement. Hope it will stay that way.

I currently have a 2023 m340 experiencing the same clunking noise over bumps and uneven roads surfaces. I also notice the clunk reversing over imperfect roads as well. Took it over to the dealer and got my struts replaced but the problem was still there. Currently going back and fourth to the dealer trying to get them to do more but they claim everything is find and they can’t replicate the sound.

Angry Knocking M340i

I also have a 2022 M340i with a knocking noise on the driver's side that I noticed within a month of having the car. I've brought it in 11 times, about half of those times they told me it was in my head.

Now, after a year and a half of owning it, they still haven't fixed it.

Currently they're replacing the tie rod. They've already replaced two control arms and bushings. I'm not confident they'll fix the issue.

At what point can I force a lease trade in? It's a waste of time and stressful. I'm over it.

My 23 m340 makes loud creaky squeaky noise when turn steering wheel close to lock on parked or very slow speed. No knock sound on bumps. Dealer says they will replace tie rods today.
