225kW variant modifications to 190kW variant

Hello everyone,

According to the Wikipedia article for the B48 engine the cars with the 225kW variant have:
  • * reinforced crankshaft
    * larger main bearings
    * new pistons
    * lower 9.5:1 compression ratio
    * larger turbocharger
    * reworked intake tract

Is it easily possible to make these modifications to our cars first off? And second, is it reasonable trying to make these same modifications? I know many just go for a tune and a downpipe to make more power but obviously the engineers at BMW thought up to do a bit more than just that to design a high-output variant engine. My guess is increased reliability even if this costs more than a simple flash and a pipe. What kind of time and price budget would I be looking at?

US-spec 330i doesn't even have the B48... it's the B46. The B46 is the SULEV engine which the whole US gets stuck with thanks to CAFE.

Are any of the modifications applicable to the US engine variant?

My Mini GP3 is holding up well.

1) BM3 with Cary Jordan custom tune (91, E30 and full E85)
2) Stock intake with BMC air filter
3) Remus race exhaust
4) Powerflex engine inserts (upper and lower) to keep wheel spin at bay due to FWD.
5) NGK 94201 spark plugs gapped to .020.
6) Wagner competition intercooler

This is good for roughly ~335whp @ 23-24 psi of boost on E30/E85. Plenty of power for a 2700lb car

With that said, you don't really need an aftermarket intake or downpipe to make good power. Aftermarket intakes usually cause DME shadow codes to pop up due to the sensitivity of the MAF sensor. Catless downpipes are smelly when cruising around town. Catted downpipes don't offer a whole lot of gain compared to stock.

I really don't know - they are two different engines. You'd have to check with European based tuners/suppliers/shops to see if any of their B48 mods work on a US B46.
