M340i Details: horsepower, M features, new colors, delayed intro

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
M340i details:
  • Same power as Z4 M40i (380hp or more),
  • Automatic only (There will be models with manuals, but only those with much smaller engines, and possibly none for the US market.)
  • M features: M Sport brakes, M diff, variable steering, M suspension (option 704 standard even with xDrive, adaptive suspension optional), M steering wheel, M exterior, rear spoiler, 19" wheels.
  • The rumored carbon roof was just a rumor.
  • Interesting colors: Portimao Blue, Blue Ridge Mountain.
  • And some bad news: it will be a delayed intro, so we won't see it until Spring 2019 or later.

More like because majority of customers opt for automatic transmissions, and it's faster and more efficient.

2021 BMW G80  [0.00]
can someone explain to me how the 340i is going to have more horsepower than the f87. Does this mean its faster off the line? how does that make sense marketing wise?

And yeah, more blue colors is a good thing. EBII is boring and way too ubiquitous.

No manual. Car is getting larger. Why not just call it a 5 Series, call the 5 a 7, introduce the 9. Then in the year 2030 they can introduce the "BMW 20 Series".

I just don't get it. The 3 Series moniker has rich history. Are they trying to make the 2 the new 3, based on it's size and performance? What would be the point?

Just like they kept the manual for G30 520d, I suspect the G20 will be the same. My guess is everything over the 320i/d is gonna be auto-only.

Snapper rocks blue
Sonic speed blue
Portimao blue
Blue ridge Mountain
Barcelona blue
Misano Blue
Phytonic Blue Metallic

Have all been introduced in the last year or so... BMW AG has a fixation right now with blue and orange

Kills me that there won't be a manual, so I'm glad I've kept my e90 with a stick. Let's hope they keep one in the M3.

Will there be a less powerful non M sport 3 series with the straight 6?
Regular 340 with 330ish hp for people who don't want so much hp? There are lots of buyers who just don't want the 4 cylinder

The Z4 is rumoured to have 2 different power output.

The top model of the upcoming BMW Z4 lineup might be offered in two configurations. The 2018 BMW Z4 M40i – codename G29 – is currently being tested with two engine configurations. The B58M1 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine is under the hood of one Z4 M40i making 335 horsepower. A second engine – B5801 – with the same displacement is being used in a second M40i with a total output of 385 horsepower.

no, they aren't... or at least not until 2022 or something.. they blew that chance when they made the F87 a 2 door coupe only.
Right at the same time when Audi introduced a four door A3... and Mercedes introduced the CLA.. also in four doors.. Shortly after... BMW loses the US midsize luxury sales crown to Mercedes..
