I don’t see next gen M3/M4 going auto. DCT for at least one more generation.
Why wouldn't they follow the M5 route? Including xDrive?

Nope.

It'll be an 8AT, non-DCT.

The M5 has shown us what's coming. As a current DCT owner, and past 6MT (both M4's) I welcome the 8AT (now that my MT days are physically behind me). Sad.

The 8AT, will be smoother/faster and more efficient the the current non/refined DCT.

That mag has no idea what they are talking about, pure speculation and guesses. Like throwing sh*t at the wall and see what sticks. Sure...they are adding awd, auto, hybrid system, water injection...oh and it is going to weigh less. Did they even read their article after they wrote it?

Everyone loves to tout the fact that automatics are smoother, faster, more efficient, bla bla bla.

And yet every single one of you misses the entire point of a manual: the fun factor being connected to the car unlike any other transmission option. Period.

It was never about being faster or quicker, it was just about driving. I honestly feel sorry for many of you guys who never got to experience that time of the automobile. No DCT or 1000HP car can give you that fix, and unfortunately as today's market shows, ignorance truly is bliss.

For some of us, a car is a shitload more than just some acceleration times and performance metrics. Sadly, the entire industry (as shown by what appeals to your average BMW buyer/owner in this thread) has shifted to making fast appliances on four wheels with mobile Facebook and internet.

The joy of driving is all but dead.

No wonder the Blue BMW drivers are aggressive.

I love the blue but boy can't stand it anymore.

I think because the New F87 with the S55 will have between 400 and 410 HP by 1st july 2018 (start production date). By the way...can't wait to have more details of the M2 Comp.

24 year old millennial here and I agree with you 100%. But don't worry, manuals will be available as long as Porsche, Aston and the American muscle trio are around. (Aston's CEO said the company will always have at least one manual model available in their lineup).

There're many ways in which BMW can market M2, though they collected your money already and don't even have to market the n55 version of it anymore. Did they ever care about E92 m3 being slower than F30 340i off the line?

Move on and fix power on your own. Not that difficult.

Actually CAR is pretty much the best magazine available as car journalism goes, but sure everyone is bound to speculate until a manufacturer gives us definitive info!!

Of course x drive will be available, but I’d doubt it’ll be standard as with the M5 which is a much more expensive model..

Absobloodylutely!! What the heck are we supposed to do with our left foot & hand once every car on the road is auto... oh yeh I gues the left hand is for tapping your touchscreen... & don’t get me started on those either, I really hope BMW never move away from iDrive which in my opinion is the absolute best system on the market, trying to tap the right part of a screen while on the move is neither easy nor safe!

Ok so sure both hands should be on the wheel most of the time, but the involvement of all four limbs while driving is what it’s all about! But sadly it does appear that I will be forced to pay more for something I don’t want when I buy my next car

True, I was going to order my 340i in silver but went for EB instead, thinking silver was common... in almost a year of ownership, virtually all the F30s I’ve seen are EB and I’ve seen just a single one in silver... doh, should have gone for silver!

It's like BMW is trying to help Mercedes-Benz sell more vehicles than BMW. How can BMW brand itself as the "Ultimate Driving Machine" by getting rid of MT on almost all of its models? If I want a soft, luxurious car with a slush box, the Mercedes will beat the BMW every single time.

If you haven't noticed this has already happened. The 2 series is the size of the original 3 series. Unfortunately this is a trend of every automaker. Every new gen they "have" to increase some dimensions. I mean, look at Porsche the Cayman is about the size the original 911
