Agree to part of that comment, but actually it’s all still valid.
During my ownership, my original questions still stand. I will look after this 100% during my time and treat as I do all mine as if almost long term.

Also, any support and advice in this forum helps others or opens a good healthy debate or provides great advice and/or resources. The reason I bought my M340d in the first place was due to this forum

They can still knacker your paint doing a wash and decon if they don’t use the proper methods. If they swirl it up you can’t polish the swirls out of a frozen finish…

Yep, totally agree…. But hopefully even BMW aren’t going to risk that (you would hope ). They were quite strict with their email response when I asked the question yesterday about washing matte paint, but then sales vs washers let’s say I understand could be worlds apart. I’ll check over very well upon collection!

All in all, I’m not going to overly worry anymore. After loads of research, a good soapy ph wash, dry, that’s it, seems to be the order. If I wanted to go a step further there are spot removers and alike by Dr Beasleys.
I was just hoping some UK owners might have had first hand experience that’s all……BUT….. I appreciate all comments, their views, advice from you all, so thanks!

I will do a proper update tomorrow, however a couple of initial things to start:

1. The handover was as expected, quite poor imo. Car was outside in car park, keeping in mind it’s had an MX2 coating I noticed dark drip dirt marks and alike!
Sorted paperwork, quick walk around, then off to nearest petrol station!

2. The windows were wet inside? It was all misted and I was told it’s just condensation and will clear with blowers. Just surprised keeping in mind this car should’ve just been prepped?

3. Driving home, warm engine now, I noticed when flooring it there was either white smoke or some sort of condensation? Maybe cold outside? When foot to the floor rear mirror shows the back has a mist appear, like on an old diesel chucking out soot, now from memory a petrol car when warm shouldnt do this, even if cold outside?

4. MPG was 30 coming home, relatively easy with the occasional flooring.

5. Paint looks much better in real life than the pictures.

6. Brakes imo feel sponge like. Maybe it’s because I’ve come from a small RS3 saloon in comparison that had ceramic brakes? It’s like push the peddle, bit more, bit more, bit more…. There it finally is! I just expected better that’s all.

Tomorrow I plan on checking it all over properly where I can. Check the body, take it for a drive and check exhaust again. Half tempted to swing into my local BMW for a checkup if they can.

Just my thoughts so far!

1. So bit of bull about the 'coating' then?!? Think deepdown you knew that.

2. The guy 'washing'/'prepping' probably had all the doors open most of the time, a proper clean inside will sort this out.

3. Combination of aerodynamics and cold damp weather, happens with mine as well.

4. It should get better with more use but that's pretty good.

5. Told ya!

6. Can't comment as I've never driven a Ceramic braked car, something I'm sure will get better as you get used to it, it does have amazing stopping power though.

Congrats on the car, dealers everywhere are often very poor on handover, think we all feel we should be treated a bit differently after handing over the thick end of near Ł80k.

Not the best time of year for buying a car with near super car performance. On a positive note, I had a great drive out today in the winter sun

Sytner are universally know to be horrific dealers, but the car looks great - congrats!

Enjoy it!

Howdy!
Got a few questions for you that I can’t seem to gain a clearer understanding about online.

Firstly though:
1. Correct, it was never going to be good. Actually I want to call out that personally I find the product is shocking. No real beading or anything!?

2. Not had the same issue since

3. Good to know nothing to worry about.

4. I was happy to see that much, more would be a bonus.

5. My wife calls it the ‘nicotine wardrobe’; the yellow’ish haze as it’s not bright white and she hates estates.

6. Will see on this, tempted to get a dealer to check though.

I would however appreciate your views on these:

1.1 - Start up = comfort/efficiency. I change my brakes to sport as want a better response, but it wont save the setting? Just reverts everything to standard even though I’m logged in etc.

1.2 - Please explain MDM? What does M Dynamic Mode mean or actually do?

1.3 - Also related, what’s with the M Traction Control 0-10. Assuming 10 means maximum rear grip, 0 means none so it can slide?

1.4 - Don’t get this D1 or S3 stuff either?

I really don’t understand some of these settings. For example, I like to play it safe, so me I would say traction set to 10. But whats the point in MDM, traction, then DSC if they all do a similar thing? Really confused and videos sending me in circles. As an owner, hoping you can put these into simple terms for me to understand

I'll try my best here, but considering I'm pretty new to this car and I've got the IT skills of an amoeba, I'll try my best

1.1 I'm quite happy leaving these settings on start up to be fair, however one way around it is to use the M buttons, I've got M1 set for a slightly more aggressive brake/throttle/suspension set up, M2 is set to mentalist, which will only be used in the dry/summer with relatively higher ambient temps.

1.2 Check out the Chris Harris vid, gives a very good explanation and practical lesson in it. I don't have the language or vocabulary skills to write it all down, I'm a pictures guy

1.3. As above in 1.2

1.4. I'd need to be in the seat to understand and look at these things again to give a decent appraisal.

Sorry I can't be anymore helpful at the moment, I'm still learning myself and I've only covered about 500miles in the two months I've had it. Bastart Crimbo has gotten in the way along with December being a birthday fest in our family

Just watched it and thought….. sound good, no idea still

I’ve set up M1 and M2 with basically sport. I’ve got M1 I believe set up for quick get always at lights, more responsive.
M2 set up for launch control.

Appreciate you have a busy period, so best wishes for birthdays and Xmas and I’ll keep hunting around!

Is D1, S3 etc not the selected gear, so normal would be D and S for Sport?

Thanks….. I’ve since found out that D does mean drive as in automatic, however S means sequential meaning paddle shift.

Right…. After numerous videos and research, I can confirm the following and hope it helps you as well.

D = Drive
S = Sequential
The numbers D1, D2, D3, S1, S2, S3 is gear shift timing, so the higher number the higher the revs and sharper/faster/harsher gear changes.

Now, M Mode vs M1/M2
Layman’s terms - M Mode changes display, M1/M2 changes setup.

M Mode button by the gear lever:
Road = Display, all safety systems on
Sport = Different display, slightly reduced, some safety systems off
Track = Different display, greatly reduced, safety systems off, main screen off.
*All in all, no change to setup, engine, chassis, brakes etc.

Now for MDM and M-Traction
DSC on is obvious, stability fully on
MDM means stability on but more rear end bias and will step out but controllable and predictable.
DSC off is traction off……….

NOW, when traction is off you can then select
4WD
4WD Sport
2WD

Only when you select 2WD can you then control/adjust M-Traction
0-3 you can easily spin out, doughnuts etc
4-6 good for drifting
7-10 beginners drift, but harder to drift at 9-10

Hope you find it useful.
Some videos that might help visually

Funboy78 Great write up, should be a stand alone pinned post

I got as far as that when exploring the menus a couple of months ago but couldn't have written it up as well as you have. Still exploring the capabilities of the G81, spring can't come quick enough.

Take a bow sir

Stunning looking car, the matte gives it a menacing sleeper look/feel
