I read all the posts and have an observation. A lot of people's "carswitchitis" seems to come from owning cars that are not....(trying to be nice here)....compelling

Those of you who are getting rid of R8's and GT3's though - there's no cure for you

When I get bored, I just jump into one of the other cars. When a car just doesn't do it for me anymore, I get a new one. I feel your pain, I suffer from the same illness. I always justify the purchase of a new car as 'it will either solve the problems I have with my current vehicles', or that 'it's practical'. The Golf R was supposed to be practical in that it's AWD and good on gas (PS, it's not good on gas, at least not after I gave it the APR stage 2 treatment). The F150 was supposed to be great for when I need to haul stuff around (PS, that's happened once and I probably could have used the X5 to do the same). The RS, well, that was my dream car, now I ache for something italian.

My opinion/advice, if you can afford it, who cares? Just buy what you like, when you like. Cars are very, very seldom an investment, life is short and well f' everybody who gives you grief for swapping your cars. Haters gonna hate and players gotta play.
damn, you livin the dream!

I feel like if I had space and the income for multiple cars my garage would look like this:

2006-2008 BMW Z4 Coupe 3.0SI manual
2015-16 Aston Martin Vantage GT manual
BMW 240i x drive (the practical all season car)

I feel that my boredom of any of those cars would be held off for years

Your buddy has more $ than sense is the problem. If a GT3 or McLaren didn't make him happy, he's never going to be.

I'm hoping this one sticks! He's a professional photographer, in his late twenties, living near downtown LA. He drives the mountains with Gunther werks all the time (yes, he's been in the Gunther werks 400R). You can see his white GT3 next to the 400R and driving around LA.

I think I have a problem.

I sold my first car after 6 months, but it was an automatic toyota tercel, so that's understandable

But since then I have always begin to itch for another car soon after getting one. The timing of this does depend on how much I like the car.

So for example the 2015 C7 I had I disliked so much, that after 3 days I wanted back into my 2014 Cayman S.

But even with my 2014 Cayman S, my favourite car of all in terms of driving experience, (I used to go for joy rides with that thing, which is something I hadn't done since I was 20), I was still looking to replace it after about 6 months.

What essentially happens with any car is that it normalizes, and it becomes dull and ordinary, or even worse, sometimes things I once enjoyed become annoyances, or things i kinda never liked about the car start to really annoy me. So with the cayman for example, I started to notice the alternator whine, the rough ride started to annoy, i really felt the lack of low end torque, even the flat six started to feel less than perfectly smooth (I was coming from the n52 in a 2007 Z4 coupe 3.0si which has to be one of the smoothest engines of all time). So one year after I got the car I was already test driving othe cars, looking for my next fix.

With my recent victim, a 2018 m240i, after just 2 months and 2000km, the turbo lag (which is pretty minimal) is getting on my nerves, the clunky and buzzy nature of the shifts at power annoy me, the lack of it's asthetic appeal to me is really gnawing at me...
and so 2 months after getting it, I find myself looking to replace it.

I feel like this is going to happen with any car I get, so I almost getting to the point where I feel like there's no point. I should give up the search for the holy grail...I will tire of even a ferrari 458 at some point.

So I should just get a car that is decent (like the m240i) and live with it for a few years and then make a change (like a normal person )

But if I give up the search for my next fix, I feel this big void looming in my life. Cars are a really passion for me.

Anyhow you can see from my posts that I have struggled with this for a while. Anyone feel the same, did you find a way out?
I know where you're coming from. Contact a broker that works with used aircraft. Just know that aircraft are way more dangerous...

I'm looking at buying a Mclaren 720 but I know it'll get boring in less than a year. After a 720, where does one go? It may be time to start accruing flying hours...

I've had my Lincoln for 3 months and after the honeymoon phase wore off I've been itching to replace it. Along the way I drove many cars (5 BMW and 1 Audi) but I've yet to find the good one to replace it with. I drove a E46 M3 Vert, N54 and N55 E90 LCI's (want to try the coupe still), F32 428i xDrive and of course my car back home the F10 525d xDrive. I also drove a long list of cars (which I keep track of), from a '86 Foxbody with a Mark 8 swap in it (shift into third to chirp wheels!) to a chevy silverado etc the range is huge. I've yet to find "the one" that I'd sell my left nut to get.

I have a few ideas on what I might consider trading the boys in for but I haven't driven them yet.
I think I somehow broke myself though because my dream car when I was 9-10 (E46 M3) has failed to amaze me. Maybe because it was a vert with the SMG but it felt too... sedated. The E90 was nice but felt like the power steering went out, in both instances. the N55 also felt like a very lazy engine. It honestly might be a case of "don't meet your heroes" because literally every BMW I've driven has managed to underwhelm me greatly.

Even though i love cars I decided to get into other stuff that moves.

I have to update the list. It appears that his car ADHD hasn't stopped in any way shape or form.
Since this list, he's gone through the following:
Ferrari 458 Spider (black w/tan interior)
McLaren 675LT (white with alcantara interior)
Ferrari 488GTB (black w/tan interior) - he's probably getting it wrapped yellow. He already has an Akropovic exhaust installed

I'm not materialistic at all. Many of these were bought during my off time in school to fix/improve and make money. So while you were judging people on the internet, I was making the best of my time to own cars I wanted to own while making money at it and broadening my talents. But thanks for your concern.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying the fruits of your labor.

I refer you to Ecclesiastes 5:18-20.

The key is not to live above your means or think the fruits of your labor are worth more than they really are.
