My newest pet peave -- drivers who use their fog lights when there is no fog

I am seeing a lot of cars driving all the time with their fog lights on. It wasn't a big issue in the old days of Edison lighting but now, with LED lighting, fog lights are a lot brighter. It gets even worse with drivers with large SUVs doing it and I see a lot of them. That puts the bright fog lights right in my face.

Very, very annoying and blinding. I have taken to driving at times with my fingers near the fog light button so I can flash the idiots to turn them off.

I was on the 101 S yesterday and passed a truck with the big fog light add-on that was on the very front grill of his truck. He flashed me with it and I'm just like really? I didn't cut him off or anything I passed him, used my turn signal, and got over in front of him. I just laugh at these things now.

I put mine on in the morning - I leave before 6am, dark winding road. Helps to light the poorly reflective paint so I can see the lane markers. But the fogs are low to the ground. How do they blind you? I'm not being a smart ass, I'm curious as I would never do something to blind another driver. I have never been blinded by someone's fog lights.

I find the rear fogs horrifically annoying. Their one sidedness upsets my OCD, and they're fucking bright at night.

Front fogs don't really bother me.

I too deal with being blinded by fogs. Primarily from lifted trucks as I drive an e90 and feel like my ass is dragging the ground most days. My next car will be an SUV.

I wouldn't normally but them on but since my low beams don't project the lights far enough I do have to rely on help from my fogs to see around the bends.

You already probably know the 3 series have worse rated headlights. Mines no exception.

I just looked at the nose, and they aren't as low as I thought they were. I guess I will start shutting when I see oncoming traffic. It never occurred to me. Sorry

No need to apologize. I've started using my fogs more often lately for the same reason you do. I don't believe that you would be a culprit in said blindery but lifted trucks are definitely annoying in this manner.

I don't see how a normal height car with fogs on can be blinding.

Get a new hobby.

Haven't turned my fog lights on in over two years, and even when I did it was accidental.

The thing that annoys me the most are soccer moms in their Audis with rear fog lights turned on. I'm just going to start high beam people that leaves that rear fogs on.

In the e46 i love to drive when it’s not quite dark yet with only the angel eyes and fogs on. No good reason other than liking the way it looks, which i can’t see from inside the car anyway

Of course, this old ass car doesn’t have LED’s, but i’m sure it would still annoy you guys...

Car lights legitimate usage is defined in the traffic law (those rules drivers must know and obey). If you comply you have the right, at least. Just make sure you do.

Front fog lights shouldn't be blinding unless turned into (illegal?) spotlights by inconsiderate assholes ("tuning" for the purpose). They are a worthless addition to low beam as they don't have a compatible range (in OEM setup, again) throwing very close. I never use them not even to mimick a top of the range M-Performance car (that does not have them at all) but simply because I find them useless even in rare real fog somehow (I might have them not clean enough usually).

Rear fog lights can be literally blinding "just as the high beam" my driving school instructor warned, FWIW. Where I drive it's explicitly illegal to use them in clear weather, day or night. In limited visibility only and what that "limited visibility" is is also defined in the traffic law, not at one's own (faulty?) discretion! I tend to use high beam to both mitigate the illegal clear weather rear fogs annoying effect in the dark and assure those I can see their rear end most clearly which is presumably their concern. There are issues though. The primary one is I must avoid blinding other drivers, mostly oncoming. Frequently I just can't use my high beam for the purpose. The other one is misunderstanding: f@gs tend to assume I'm of their kind , just demanding the way.

Ever seen a car that looks like only one brake light is on? That's the rear fog light. Purpose, evidently fog related but I've seen approximately 0 on during foggy mornings/evenings.
