I don’t remember reading in any press release exact numbers except to expect more than 600 HP. Show me the press release you read.

Fuel Consumption Analysis
Combined: 22.40 MPG based on 10,5 l/100 km conversion from the press on F9x (S58), compared to F80 (S55), 20 MPG (manual) and 19 MPG (DCT). With lighter weight construction on G8x, expecting it with much better fuel consumption.

S58 engine
Looks like the G80 will have a nice baseline to start. I figure maybe 530hp for the CS and 550hp for the CSL.

In the X3M/X4M video, she revved it up to 5k rpm. The sound is overall a bit deeper than S55 ZCP, and more importantly is less raspy - though we're not sure about the last 2k rpm of S58.
Fitted with MPE, or even stock ZCP muffler, S55 sound is acceptable below 4k (and some of us even think it's good) but above that it's terribly raspy.

I don't know too much about turbos vs. compression ratio tuning, but what are the implications of lowering the compression ratio so much from S55 vs. S58? More boost?

Yes, the trade-off being the engine will make less power off boost, but that shouldn't be an issue.

Are those two high pressure fuel pumps? That makes me nervous on principle, though I probably shouldn't be.
Also curious if the engine versions are simply detuned/less boost or if there are internal differences. I'd be more comfortable with a flash tune than just raising the redline. A lot needs to happen for an engine to safely rev to 7500+. |

Why? The M3 isn't their flagship model either, nothing to suggest that they will bring more power or will need to it'll weigh 300kg+ less for a start.

Drove the X3M with it in it the other day...this engine is gonna be a beast!! Plus! No more "active sound" they're pulling a play from Porsche and pipe in actual exhaust sound via a flap system like the 911 does (according to the BMW M team guys).
