The 2020 mid-engine Vette Stingray... what a gorgeous car at a bargain bin price (starting at under 60k). If it drives and sounds as well as everyone expects it will, I'll retain the G30 as the commuter and get me a manual Vette.

BMW and I are drifting apart, and I feel like the continued Lexusification effort is a bridge too far for me.
I guess no one has told you there will not likely be a manual Vette. NA V8? Yes. RWD? Yes. 0-60 in 2.8? Yes. Manual. No. Some say the chassis/frame design and oil sump (I believe) make it impossible in current form. Not sure this has been 100% confirmed/denied.

There is no such thing as a perfect car lol.
The jury is still out on the MT C8, but I'm sure we'll get confirmation soon enough.

No manual Vette? What? Sacrebleu!

A mid-engine NA V8 with DCT still sounds infinitely better than what I am seeing from the new M3/M4. By the way, as far as I am aware, BMW still hasn't confirmed availability of the third pedal, so we could looking at auto vs DCT in this regard.
Yeah ... a few of the journalists have commented on this .. granted they aren't engineers but do have a way better idea than me.... they could always redesign some of the crap under there ... how hard could it be?

I just had a crazy idea ... clutch and shift by wire!? haha *flame suit donned*

Yeah I certainly don't know for sure but a few journalists commented on it "not looking possible" but they could always be wrong or maybe they'll do some design tweaks to make it happen

It can't be right ... m3 seems like a bad car to test "will the people love it or hate it?" Theory bc of the history it has... just too aggressive, they'll dial it back from that a lot I think.

Remember this is also applicable the new 4-Series, so BMW is playing a risky game indeed.

Just sat in one and revved it a bit yesterday — absolutely love the sound of that motor (maybe a little too much overrun popping tho lol).

If I weren't doing track days, I'd really strongly consider the GLC63. They're sweet!

Yes they put a "mild" burple tune on it lol. Only engages in sport+ as I drive in Sport around town. Great car with awesome power delivery. The bmw tech is way beyond though.

Wish we could take three best parts of all the cars and put them together ... I always get tempted by the AMGs but the Ms just seem happier on the track, have more forum support for the track, and have been available in manual in the past. The stalk gear lever has been weird to me too but I think I'm over that. I hear a rumor the next c63 won't have the V8 but I hope that isn't true. The motor is the main argument for getting that car (interior more luxurious too but more of a fringe benefit in my eye)

I'pretty sure the next C63 is not going to have a V8, same like BMW and Audi did with the M3/4 and RS4/5. You guys have to realize that the regulations and taxes are tough in Europe. The M5, E63 or RS6 may be a different story at least for a certain time, but I can't imagine they will offer a V8 for the class below.

I like it, but had a sit in, and a look round an RS5 sportback the other day, and man was it nice. The interior was sheer quality, and the exterior was aggressive but classy, way nicer than the RS5 coupe.

I have to admit , I was tempted!

Owned a CPO one for 6 months... the engine and driving it in sport + mode is the only way to drive it. It is the closest thing to driving an actual sports sedan but lifted off the ground. My biggest gripe was it's awful MPG and infotainment system. I had a 2018 so I believe they made some improvements over this year and the 2020 got a facelift. I paid $64k ($83k sticker) for mine and it had 4100 miles. But I couldn't stay away from a true sports sedan and got a deal on my M4. Plus I actually walked away with a few bux on the trade. I know it's subjective but it also felt a bit too on the lux side cause to most people think it's just another MB SUV..

If the base manuals are over 70k I'm gonna go preowned. $60k is about the most I'll spend on a car.

The interior is just god awful. That, and I would not want to be a first year owner of that Vette. Styling is very nice though....

I contacted one of the top 3 Corvette dealers in the US and he already has 400 deposits out of 600 allocations for the C8 next year. I decided to put my name in line in case I decide to get one when my lease ends next June.

When do they start rolling in? I'm hoping for at least a test drive or a rental from enterprise to get a feel for it ... so much hype tho so will need to be careful with initial impressions!

The interior has never been Corvette's strong suit, and it is probably the weakest link (along with the small-block pushrod V8). It's decent enough to overlook if everything else checks out. The seat choices look nice, especially in the right color combo.

That said, BMW's new interior direction hasn't exactly impressed me either. The weird all-LCD digital instrument with backward tachometer and the the shifter cluster with a row of tactilely indistinguishable buttons are some examples.

I do agree that I wouldn't be a buyer for the first year model. I will let the others jump in first, and maybe pick one up in the second or third year of production. Maybe by then the C8 Z01 would be available?

The same goes for the G80 M3 though. If I do decide to get it, I would wait a year or two before jumping in.

I think if your performance threshold is judged merely from stoplight to stoplight the RS5 could be considered the equivalent to an M3, but it is way too heavy to be a true trackable street car, if that even matters to most people.

That's what the X3/4M are for.

Spooky, I was about to type the exact same thing. Unlikely by chance, BMW is very keen for its top selling model (G01 X3) to have people test the waters in and X3/4M is the 2 year void of actual M3 production.

Clever.
