Don’t see it happening, eventhough many BMW enthusiasts have been asking for it since the last Z4M Coupe.

BMW priced it out of existence with a M40i starting price of $65k.

Cayman is fantastic on paper and worlds better actually driving. No offense, but the Supra and Z5 will be well off the pace of what the current cayman is doing and both will not hold a candle to the GT4 coming.

This is not Supra ,cheap try to cash in Supra name.
Comparing to 1993, this one have a 5HP bump after 25+ years, old one looks better than "new" one.

I owned a Supra MKIV TT before, during, and shortly after TFATF. I can guarantee you, that movie had a TON to do with the legend of the car. Very few people commented on the car before that movie. After the movie came out, rockstar status confirmed it was unreal. It also more than doubled the price I paid for the car used in a matter of months.

I've been a fan in the import scene ever since I can remember and Supra being one of the most awesome cars on the planet. I think Toyota and BMW did good on this and I have no qualms on the engine or the exterior/interior--it looks really really nice. A lot of tuners look at the car and see a lot of potential in it as do I. The curves and angles of the exterior look amazing and look brutish at times. The shape brings the old school look back into the new school look--it's so sick.

I don't care that it isn't 100% Japanese or that Europeans contributed to it; in fact I think that is awesome that automakers from two different markets are collaborating together to make something cool like this. You wouldn't have seen that 20-30 years years ago.

Why no manual though?

And why no rear seats?

Who is their target audience for this?

These just dont add up

Probably to save costs by making it nearly identical to the Z4 mechanically.

But they spent like a decade to plan this car and knowing that its mostly tuners and bros that are poning for this car and keeping the market alove for the old version,

Things like weight saving from a manual wpuld.be enticing pts for this car to sell, i dont know how manual option would save cash?

Not having to spec another transmission in the production line. Tuners also like the BMW platform so there's plenty of potential there.

The fact that Toyota didn't think that there was a customer base for the manual shows how truly out of touch they are with this car and its fan base.

I've always driven manuals, but the fact is that outside of older Americans, there isn't really a market for manuals. EU, nope. Asia, nope. So why would Toyota offer a manual? For the few hundred Americans crying for it? Go buy a Cayman, Miata or similar.

Completely agree, They prob said "BMW offers 1 Transmission, And were offering 1 Transmission" The only 3 series with a manual going fwd is the M3/M4 and the 2 series.

No manual because there isn't enough demand to invest in offering one. That money is being spent developing electric drivetrains and autonomous driving systems.

Target audience is people who want a compact; true 2-seater sports car. This answer also addresses your second question.

Funny- for how often people complain about cars getting larger, I hear near-zero praise for this car's compact size.

I actually prefer the 2 seater compared to the 2+2. Those small rear seats always end up being useless anyways. And yes the fact that is small is definitely a plus.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the 2 & 3 series currently use the B58 engine? Aren't those cars offered in a manual? I don't see how much R&D would be needed to fit a manual trans that already exists into this car. I'm assuming very little.

When I learned to drive a manual, a long, long time ago in a galaxy far away, I had to learn the shift points by touch and feel; no rev matching, no tachs.

If one wants the true old experience, then go for a manual that really requires you to feel the shift points. Otherwise, I don't see a big difference between shifting a modern 3 pedal car and using the paddle shifters.

3400 pounds isn't small. They got the length right, same as a Cayman, but missed the weight by 400 pounds.

The old 3er and the current 2er are both F chassis cars. The Zupra is a G chassis. And of course a manual could fit, but they'd have to run it through emissions and crash testing. ROI for the 18 cars they actually sold would be pathetic.

Look, I want a G81 wagon with rwd and a manual, but it isn't going to happen. Be happy that we can still get a Miata, Cayman, 911 (soon) or Wrangler with a manual. I'd personally rather either a Miata or a Cayman than this anyway.
