Why does my car start then shut off using remote start with FOB?

My car starts when using remote start with the key fob, then it shuts off after a few seconds. The following error message appears. I am taking it to the dealership today. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Lol I saw this post earlier today and I was thinking to myself how I've never seen this message or had this happen in my 2.5yrs of owning the car. Remote started today and it ran for a full cycle before turning off. Tried remote starting again and it wouldn't. Went in the car to check and what do I see:

The dealership advised it is the battery. It needs to be replaced. None in stock so I am waiting for a battery to arrive hopefully this week. I am wondering if this has been caused by the last software update? We will know if more people report the issue.

Well isn't that nice to know! Always nice when the dealer is able to determine the culprit but not able to rectify due to the lack of parts…

I assumed it was because the charge in the battery was low. My car was parked outside in the cold for a few days before this.

Funny you guys posted this. I had the exact same thing happen to me this past weekend. I also noticed that when I opened my doors, none of the interior lights (dome lights and such) came on.

Started the car and drove it to Target, like a mile away. When I came out from Target I had another warning pop up saying the battery was low. So I drove the car a bit more and the battery warning went away (I assume because driving charged it up a bit).

My car only has 2,4xx miles on it and I've had it less than a year, so no way the battery is dead already. Not sure what the issue is. I also though maybe the cold, but my wife's X1 has never had this issue and it's a year older than my car.

Either way, I have to go back in the next week or so to get the sunshade for my sunroof fixed (as soon as they get the part), so I'll bring this up to the dealer and see what they say.

This sort of issues comes up every winter for various reasons, and is usually caused by a driving profile that doesn't keep the battery in a good state of charge (SoC). The colder the winter, more users have issues. Many batteries are replaced prematurely, simply due to running in a low state.

Putting the battery on a charger is the way to keep the battery in a better SoC.

I think you may be answering your own situation... most likely the driving profile and not enough charging time. Is your wife's X1 used more?

No, we actually use them about the same.

Is it possible there is more electrical consumer demand on the M340i ?

That could be the only thing I could think of. Prior to my M340 I had an Audi A5 for three years. Drove it less than my BMW, but never had an issue with the battery so I don't think it's my driving habits causing it.

I'll see what service says when I go in here in the next week or so.

Probably. Plus I have a dashcam wired in along with other stuff plugged into the port that draws charge that I forgot about. That along with the extreme cold probably did it for me.

Edit - Scanned my car today and it had a low voltage error code 030E05

Why would you want to remote start your car then if you want the AC off?

It makes sense A/C is not able to be disabled. The remote start is part of the pre-climatization function of the car. Eliminating the A/C would be backwards for what the function is meant for.
