Lightbulb Latest G70 7-Series info update - SOP and hybrid HP figures added + spy video

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Latest info as of Nov 13, 2021

G70 7er
  • Will introduce the TÜ2 generation of B58 engine.
  • Production 07/22-06/29 with LCI in 03/26
  • Intro models: worldwide 735i (B58U2, 270hp), 740i (B58M2, 370hp), 750ix (S68, 535hp), i7 xDrive50 (480hp), possibly others; US 740i, 750ix, i7 xDrive50.
  • 750ix is interesting in that it doesn't have an M in its name but will be offered with the usual list of M Performance parts (steering wheel, body bits, suspension, etc.) as standard.
  • Standard air suspension, soft close doors, B&W audio. Notable options:
    • Choice of M Sport or Luxury interior and exterior design
    • Fully automatic doors like in the new Phantom
    • Sky Lounge roof
    • Totally new headlights, with the same "Iconic Glow" designation as the X6 grille. That grille will be available too of course.
    • Rear seats equal in comfort to the front ones (heating/ventilation, massaging) in Executive Lounge configuration, plus rear entertainment that's better than the old "shut up, here's an iPad screen in the headrest for you".
    • Same "Natural Interaction" thing as in iX.
    • Even more better version of B&W audio.
    • A new driver assist package called "Motorway assistant".
    • A whole bunch of BMW Individual customizations.
  • 11/2022 SOP: worldwide 735dx (B57, 280hp), 745ex (B58U2 + EM = 480hp), M750ex (B58M2 + EM = 565hp), additional models TBD
  • 07/2023 SOP: Worldwide and US 740ix, i7 M60.
  • Compared to the regular 7 series, i7 M60 includes as standard 21" wheels, active steering, multifunction seats throughout the cabin, the usual M trim pieces inside and outside, and a model-exclusive M performance package option.
  • Possible additional models: 735d, i7 eDrive45, i7 M60

Will it be attractive? 7-series hasn't been that in many many years.

That one is the S68 in a hybrid config. For now, XM is the only one with that kind of setup.

In the future, it could be the ideal powertrain for G90.

I did triple-check in last few days and my sources still say the 750ix will be R6 mild hybrid. Even M badges over the engine bay confirm this scenario.

V8 is supposed to be reserved for different chassis, i.e. the XM.

We'll see how it goes, I am really interested to see how it plays out

Your sources are definitely looking at the M750ex, not 750ix. 750ix will have a V8, and of the two "50" models it's the PHEV one that gets the M Performance badging.

If you need more evidence, PM me and I'll show you.

Gonna be hard to be excited about this with the buttonless iX interior and Hyundai-esque split headlights.

I loved this 7 series. Bummed that they haven't thought of tying in this design to a new generation build one day.

Seven years of production is pretty good, you drive a fresh looking car for longer. Love the fact they dropped the M badges but they will still offer M stuff underneath although I'm worried about that V8 and reliability so probably inline 6 or that new electric model would be the way to go. Air suspension is probably awesome but has to work and hopefully audio plays good because it wasn't too good before. Fully automatic doors are cool and hopefully they will nail it as far as looks inside/out.

The still from the YT video on the OP is the essence of the 7 vs the A8 and S class just try that in one of those, that's why I will always go for a 7 over the others.
