Had the software updated and sure enough, the steering wheel now turns on. BUT, there's a patch that was just released last week and now the passenger side does NOT turn on. It's not part of the software update but again, a patch. At least that is what the dealership advised.
He/they spoke with bmw directly and were advised that due to customer feedback, they are looking into adding the feature to turn on all three but as for now, it should not be active. |

So weird thing with my car is that it is really hit or miss when I remote start the car and then push the start button. The drivers seat will sometimes turn on and sometimes not when the temp is below the 50 degrees I set it at. Now it’s been somewhat warmer lately in MD and sometimes the heated seats will turn on when it is 55-60 degrees out which is above the threshold I set it at.

That is because the BMW phevs run the remote climatize feature off the hybrid battery but doesn't start the car. It is one of my favorite features in hot Arizona. Playing golf in the summer; finish the 17th hole and use my phone to turn on the AC; the car is comfortable by the time I get to it).

For me its the opposite on my 19 330i. The heated steering wheel comes on when remote start is used and its cold outside, even though i have no climate rules set.

There is a still a lot of confusion on this, mostly due to BMW not explaining it properly, but also because the way it works is completely asinine and no one with half a brain would naturally expect it to function like this. In regard to non-electric G20 models (330i, m340, etc), the part most people seem to still be in the dark about is that there are 2 phases to climatization: remote climatization and post-start climatization.
Remote Climatization starts when you remote start the car via app or key fob. It ignores the temperature rules you set in iDrive, thus you have very little control over what it does. It is currently hard-coded to: turn on your AC to the last running temperature/settings, turn on your heated steering wheel, and either due to a persistent bug or a horrible design oversight, it heats the passenger side seat only, at a very low level (lower than level 1 it seems)...and does not heat the driver seat at all. Many users including myself documented that last part over a year ago at the beginning of this thread, some of us using infrared thermometers to verify the behavior. Insanely that is still happening in my 330i after 13 months and two software upgrades (currently on 07.2020). Post-start Climatization begins once you get in your remote started car and press the Start button (or simply get in and start your car normally). This is when those climate control rules you set in iDrive take effect. The rules do nothing before this point. So if you're wondering why those climate rules you're setting aren't having any effect during remote start, it's because they're not engaged yet. As awesome as this car is in many ways, it seems as though the climatization logic for our software was designed by a mentally deficient individual who has never actually operated a car or lived anywhere cold. There is finally a documented fix, the vehicle software needs to be updated to 11.2020:

Super basic question here, but I cannot figure out how to even remote start the car.
Is this feature available in the 2021's? I have activated the digital key, added the keys to my apple wallet for the mobile key, but the option for "engine start on ventilation" still does not show up in the idrive settings for me. |

Still blown away that it took them an entire year to issue a fix for this, but better late than never. Just in time for some cold January weather. Thanks again for posting, I had long since given up on asking the dealer about it. Last edited by 2020g20; 01-15-2021 at 11:18 AM.. |

I have a 2022 m340i and the wheel/seats are NOT heating up with remote start. As soon as I start engine it will turn both on (because it is under the temperature tule I set up).
My version is November 2021 on the car. Weird. Not fixed for me! Edit: wheel does heat. SEATS DO NOT |

This is one of the most confusing threads on the planet! Simply put regarding a U.S. G20.. Do the seats heat after you have remote started? Yes or no. Does the steering wheel heat after you have remote started? Yes or no. This should be elementary by now or a valid response should have been released by BMW at this point. Hmmm.

I'm growing very frustrated with this and the dealer can't take my car in for checkup for another 2 months due to loaner shortage. It's getting ridiculous.
So, can anyone confirm please WHAT VERSION of firmware you are running, assuming your heated seats are coming ON when remote starting the car please? This would help me even determine if the problem is software related as I'm on 11-21.30 and it most definitely refuses to work and it's awfully cold here darn it.

We don’t have remote start here in the auK but I wonder if the issues reported in this thread are partly the result of a less than fully charged 12v battery? I have had some stuff such as Comfort Access and ‘automatic’ seat warming disabled as a result of the 12v being not fully charged but not so weak that a warning message comes up, resolved after a session in the battery conditioner.

I have a 2022 M340 and I think I am on whatever the latest software version. When I remote start from the app heated steering wheel turns on for sure but can’t really tell whether seat heater is on or off. When I get in the car seat is neither warm nor cold when I touch it. I assume remote start turn seat heater on with lowest setting. So that’s why the seat doesn’t feel cold to touch for a car that’s been sitting in 20 degrees for 8 hours.
