Snow and Ice

As I haven't experienced the 330e in winter conditions
I was wondering if, you leave in automatic or switch to manual with paddles?
Just wondering if manual would give better control or not
I have xdrive so have that piece of mind but I've had some scapes in the snow n ice before and don't wanna rap this beauty!!

Wouldn't worry too much about it, having xdrive and all - just take it steady in auto.

Mines RWD only and come snow it stays at home as much as possible. Ice just take it slow and steady (Unless there is nobody around )

Cheers
I live so rural I can't avoid hills both up n down
I'm happy I have xdrive and am hoping that's gotta help.
I just felt acceleration is on or off, or maybe I just haven't found that touch yet ( only done 200 miles as yet)

Just remember that Xdrive gets you started but it doesnt help you stop.... living where you do, I'd be sticking winter tyres on which with xdrive will completely allay concerns... except for the fact other idiots are on the roads....

It’s all about the tyres. 4 wheel drive will make little difference in the snow.

I just drove the M340d xDrive Touring during the weekend on icy and snowy roads. No issues with traction if you have winter tires and take it easy on the throttle, driving in comfort and automatic mode for trany.

If you want to be sure to not overshoot the acceleration, just use the Eco Pro mode, which will help with smaller throttle inputs.

Thanks for the feedback Adam, good to here
I havent winter tyres on, but are brand new? Should be good for grip?
Thats a good point about Eco Pro though, i havent even tried that as yet, ill give that a go re: throttle response as i guess thats damn handy when pulling into my garage!!
many thanks

Winter rubber and never looked back. Honestly it's like driving on summers in the winter.

ive had at least 3 330es, and 2 530e's

both perfectly fine in the snow (none xdrive) i guess the extra battery weight helps. but ive driven in some horrific snow in them and never had an issue

Are you running winter tyres? Summer tyres are compromised on snow and slush.

Difference between summer and winter tyres with RWD is like chalk and cheese.

As they say, a 2 wheel drive with winter tyres is better than a 4wd on summer tyres in snow.

Given I am in the SE, can wfh if needed and can walk to a train station of really desperate I dont bother, but if I had a need to use my car all year round, a set of winters would be on my list of options for my car!

I must admit i was worried about having a RWD car, ive not owned a daily RWD at all. So far its gotten cold and greasy in the last week, and touch wood, the car has been very well behaved. Sadly work wont put winters on our cars

Work will replace worn tyres only, so if i wanted i could replace with winter then, but as the car / tyres are a week old. I will have to get through this winter with the summer tyres and xdrive
Hopefully we get a couple of inches at best over the next few months

By the way.........off topic i know. But reverse assist isn't that accurate as i first thought. Wheel arch caught a stone in the wall reversing off drive this morning using reverse assist!!! Bang goes my trust and annoyed doesn't even cover it

Just remember summer tyres with xDrive doesn't improve driving stability or help braking on snow. XDrive may help get moving a little, but then there's little advantage once moving.

Being a driver in the Scottish Highlands, I always say, "if you can't stop, best not to be moving". It is the correct tyres that help you stop better.

I agree with the tyres though. I put all seasons tyres on the Mrs Mini, was night and day during the last bad winter we had.

Having only just figured out (doh!) that the mint condition winter wheels/tyres from my F31 don't fit, I've bought a set of unused 796Ms from eBay (along with tyres).

Wouldn't be without them given the difference they make..
