First Impressions...
Ok, I figured I would update you guys after one day, one week, one month, and one year on owning my M340 so here we go...
I drove it for the first time today. After speaking on the phone for about an hour with a BMW genius at the dealer where I purchased the car, I took it out and drove it. Being one to follow advice of the prudent, I didn't take it over 4k RPM and drove it mostly in Sport Mode, and let me tell you, this car is deceivingly fast. The epitome of a wolf in sheep's clothing. I did put it in comfort mode and eco mode just to see how it felt, and in those modes it was as expected, but in Sport Mode, this thing takes care of business. Things I like: Seats are fantastic. Sound is great...I don't get why those of us with a 2021 should have any complaints. I agree it doesn't sound like the 20 models, but this is going to be my DD and sounds plenty aggressive enough for that. IF you want louder pipes, you can get them. Vision for the driver out of the car is fantastic. Engine is sublime. You guys were all correct. The B58 is a masterpiece and the power is indeed very linear and strong all the way. They geared this car properly. The torque comes on immediately and it reminds me of a muscle car in that regard. The I Drive Chick is better than many women on the planet. She does what she is asked and seems fairly pleasant. Things I am not fond of: The wind noise was a little louder than I expected after everyone told me it was so quiet in the interior. My 330 seemed more quiet at speed. No hard drive for my music still tilts me. I don't hate it, but the tach will take some getting used to because I have never had a anti clockwise one. Again don't hate it but it will take some time to get my mind to see it as normal. So in summary, it is fantastic. It looks great. Love the aggressive nature of the car and how it performs and I haven't even really gotten after it yet. Will let you know how I feel after a week. Best, MB

As for the wind noise, that's definitely one of the few complaints I have thus far. Much more than I'd expect on this level of vehicle. My 2018 Honda Accord Sport had far less road/wind noise. Oh well, I can deal with it just to continue enjoying the perfection that is the B58!! Cheers!

Regarding the tach and the new digital cluster... it's different, not worse, so give it some time and you'll adjust. Personally, I liked it right off the bat and one of the reasons I went for a BMW. When you enter Eco Pro for example, where tach information is replaced with battery/standby/coast and mpg information, the new digital cluster takes on new form of functionality and aesthetics that wasn't possible before.
I've watched and read a lot of BMW reviews of the new digital cluster from various new models and I have yet to hear a single person voice their criticism of the new digital cluster in a way where it intelligently and accurately points out an actual problem with the functionality. Every complaint has been completely subjective and baseless because said person doesn't live with a BMW every day and therefor cannot swallow the difference. |

Yeah as 93 said the 2021 model no longer has a hard drive ... Freaking idiotic.

Just curious why you just dump all your music on your phone and play it from there? I have a hard drive in my E90 and never used it. My X5 has wireless charging that keeps my phone charged while playing music. Current phones have plenty of storage to handle more than the cars hard drive would hold anyway. Even USB sticks are larger now.

I have stated that I am a dinasaur and I know that, but at some point when you are over 50 it may happen to you too LOL! Someone will have the newest version of music that makes yours obsolete and it doesn't mean I CAN'T adapt, it just means I am sick of it. In my lifetime we have gone from vinyl to 8-tracks to cassettes to CDs to digital, and now I can't even play a freaking song using my own digital music on a stick. Ok, done venting, and yes you are correct and that is what I have been forced into doing now...

I didn't know that thanks. If I end up coding that stuff in is BMW going to jack with my warranty?

1 week review
Well, here we are one week in and I have some additional thoughts...
First, why did BMW put H-rated Grand Touring tires on my new M340? If it wasn't going to cost me money to replace them I would literally be laughing out loud. I have been working with a few guys on the site here on how to fix this issue, but the bottom line is regardless of the masses buying BMWs now, those of us who purchase an M340 - - WE DO NOT want H rated skins on our car. Seriously, we don't. Next and in line with the previous topic, I took my car to buy a new hood Roundel, long story but someone buffed the edges off of it before it got to me. I actually got on the go pedal for the first time and this car is the epitome of a Wolf in Sheep's clothing. It is fast. Meaning really f a s t. I have owned many BMWs and exotics along the way, but this car may actually get me in some challenging situations with our nation's finest. If you really get on it, you are going to be significantly over the speed limit in a very short period of time. I am not saying M3s aren't fantastic, but I do not need one. This car is p l e n t y fast. That being said, the H-rated tires were fun to slide around, but again, they are going to be used for Winter only and then they will be gone. Finally, despite all of my nits, I really do like this car a lot. I mean I have caught myself hopping into the seat whilst in the garage a few times just to see if I can learn something new or just to appreciate the car. I have zero buyer's remorse. Zero. I look forward to the Spring when I put some real rubber on this car and really test the limits. I am waiting until at least 1000 miles before I try the launch control and the like just so I can report on what my full perspective is on her. Working from home at the moment so not a lot of reason to add miles just for the heck of it. In summary, I will work with you guys to ensure I get the bugs out, but this is going to be a hell of a run. I will update again in a month, but until then be safe and keep the rubber side down. MB

2. It is FAST. the 130 mph speed limiter agrees with you. Its definitely quicker than my GT4 to reach that speed. The B58 Engine is awesome and the ZF 8 speed is perfectly tuned. In Highways, it is just a pleasure to drive. There are cars that feels heavy and the engine struggles to move the car. This car doesn't feel like that. Though a heavier car. It has better Power to weight ratio. 3. I also have 0 Buyer remorse. My only remorse is not being able to decked this out. Looking forward when I have the funds to get an AWE exhaust and corresponding Fascia upgrades. Tough owning a GT4 and an M340i at the same time. |

There is a strong correlation between speed rating of a tire and its overall performance potential (grip, etc.). As such, putting what is effectively a mild mannered Grand Touring tire on a performance car that will likely be driven enthusiastically by most owners makes little sense. It has little to do with what speed you actually drive at.
