Who doesn't appreciate the sound of an exotic car flying down the road? It feels like they are sucking the soul out of the car when they silence it. And I think when we're driving these EVs our subconcious is telling us something is wrong because we're only hearing tire/road noise. But, the cars perform well and will continue to get better and better. I am sure a quad engine all electric M3 is going to be a beast on the track. BMW wouldn't subject us to an all electric M3 unless they thought they could improve track times/performance. It's just going to take A LOT of getting used to for us old-timers. Eventually, the younger generation won't even know what they're missing. They'll be complaining to their kids that there are no cars that can be driven anymore because they are all self-driving.
Excuse me, who are you calling an old timer? I feel as young as I did, when I was 85 years old 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤪🤪

The death of the "///M" brand happened the moment they slapped it on an SUV. Furthermore, slapping M on everything from trim line to a 340i/550i/etc. diluted it further to the point where it no longer means much nor hold as much weight (except literally, all these new cars are porkers). The only moniker in the game that holds any weight is the GT(2-4) moniker that Porsche assigns to its cars.

I'm sure this new EV M3 will sell just fine, but it just means us old school enthusiasts will have to seek refuge in Porsche or other older cars in general.

I'm still a bit skeptical about BMW ditching the ICE completely in the M3, but time will tell. Mercedes have not been able to sell the new C63 very well, so I thought BMW might learn from that mistake and never downsize the engine and complement it with hybrid tech and instead introduce hybrid tech with the same engine (I.E. the new upcoming M5). If they're going full swing in EV for the M3 then they may think they can get away with it.. we'll see.

I suspect once the 'performance' numbers hit the vlogs,...it'll sell like 'Hotcakes' on Sunday! And in case no one is paying attention,...just look at the straight line performance of the Rimac Nevera at 1900+ Hp,...and 1741 lb-ft of torque. Now, the Quad-Motor M3 won't be that fast,...but I'm betting it leaves every other M3 before it sitting at the Start line!

They will prob offer different trims for the supposedly all EV M3. Much like the X5. I would say M3 6MT, M3CX AWD and M3EV. With different price points for different folks. I think it would be foolish to just move everything to EV without offering alternatives. One thing BMW is good at is offering a lot of options to capture the market...like the M-lite ones you pointed out so buyers with different pocket sizes could choose what they want.

s2000 is slow and its still a more fun to car to drive than newer cars, similar cars. not everyone cares solely about HP straight line numbers when all they do is land you in jail on public streets.

Genuinely curious what makes it more fun without also landing you in jail on public streets? Taking corners at 15 mph or less?

In all sincerity, pretty much any car made for public streets, driven at limits, can land you in jail, given the right conditions. I would definitely concur that the S2000 is much more engaging due to its simplicity and its looks are, dare I say, timeless?

Makes sense now why BMW approved the ugly design of the G generation. They new the “NEW Class” would make them look even worse so people trade up. The NEW Class has everything from designer standpoint that made people fall in-love with BMW back 80s.

Respectfully disagree.

The cache is the drive, not the emblem on the trunk lid.

I do not care about the brand. I care about individual cars. The M4CX is an awesome car, and faster than pretty much everything other than Z06s, ZL1s and Porsches that start with GT#. (Yes, hypercars are also faster, but they are unobtainable for me.)

Also, all manufacturers are going EV, even Porsche.

Finally, let's hope that the new EV M3/4 has a range of 400 miles and superfast charging. Those are two of the many issues that caused me to trade my Tesla M3P in for an M4

I agree 100%!

I'm one to believe that the guy in the 325is,...has more fun (...that is, 'longer') than the guy in the M3!,...as everything done in the 325is will take longer to happen,...by the same token, the guy in the M3/M4 has more fun than the guy in the M5. The higher the performance,...the sooner the 'fun' factor will be over!

Spot on....mostly due to fires that cant be extinquised and end up causing damage to road surface. One EV fire ruins the track for a signifigant amount of time.

The article says Atlanta Motorspeedway has electric charging at track, so there is some that allow it, but not many.

G87 ice 6mt

Every reason why I bought a G87 6MT. It will be the last G8X with ICE and a 6MT...I'll probably keep it forever.

I'm fortunate to have a model X plaid as well and frankly its too easy, too boring, no feel, not authentic...G8X 6MT all the way as there will never be another imho.

The Model T was initially a niche product. Ten years into production, only .002% of the world population (assuming each Model T produced was sold to a distinct individual) had a Model T. That’s a massively adopted product in your mind?

Again, you need to read up on your history buddy. And the fact that you pointed out there are far more cars on the road today hurts your argument for EVs being a niche product. Obviously, if there have been ICE vehicles on the road for 100 years and each vehicle lasts 10-20 years, there are going to be a huge prevelance of ICE vehicles relative to EVs.

The fact that there is an extraordinarily embedded product in the ecosystem and yet a company like Tesla has been able to grow as rapidly as they have seems to indicate these aren’t going to be niche for long.

Here’s a logic lesson for you. Explain to me in your logic how you are most likely right yet people far smarter than you or I are investing hundreds of billions into mining lithium and building out charging infrastructure. Highly doubt they are betting their billions on this being a “niche” product. Logic seems to indicate these well informed and resourced individuals are more likely to know more than you right?
