Question Forcing the OTA update to install (11.2020/50)

Hi Folks. Few weeks back I got a notification on my phone about the new update - 11.2020/50. I downloaded it, and transferred it to the car from the myBMW app. Since then, the software has not been installed. It just says “Files were transferred, you will be informed when they are ready to install”. Since weeks?!?

Any idea how to force an update? This new version has finally some interesting features in it that I have been waiting for.

When you go to the Remote Upgrade Software section in the settings, what does it say there?

It is a well known problem discussed here many times. The update is very sensitive to the battery charge level. It must be absolutely at 100% to trigger the install, so the most convenient way to achieve it is to charge it overnight using tickle charger and the install process should start. Some people go for a longer drives to charge the battery, but with different results.

The other factor that prevents the install can be the lack of network coverage. The car must be able to connect to the network, so if you park in some underground car park or in some remote location it also could be the problem.

Drive a long range

Because of the cold weather, the battery it's even more sensitive. I actually covered more then 300km (200Miles) before it told me to park and install.

Another factor that you should consider is when the Start-Stop function begins to work, that's a sign that the battery is almost full and it will soon be ready for installation.

Same issue with my car. I’ve charged the battery and it still won’t install.....

According to the manual the criteria are.....

So no idea what is going on..... I’ll just need to be patient.

Yeah just got this update as well and not starting.
I trickle charged the battery to full also, went for a spirited drive in sport mode, nada.
