I don’t think it’s specific to BMW. My Macan does the same thing. I’m honestly surprised this is just now coming out and singling out BMW. I can’t use wireless charging in any vehicle.

Apple reportedly says an update is coming to keep BMW and Toyota Supra wireless chargers from disabling iPhone 15 NFC chips. |

I actually really like my iPhone 15PM and felt it was a somewhat worthwhile upgrade from my iPhone 12PM.

…… continued radio silence from these “brand giants”
Except for a firmware update….. which will make the wireless charger even more useless for actually charging up the iPhone.

Brand new 2024 i4 eDrive40 killed my launch day 15 Pro in about a minute as I was driving it home from the dealer.
I have a 2021 330i with CarKey and wireless charging; I tried to avoid using the charger with the new phone having seen the articles but it ended up charging for a bit when I used the phone to start the car. My girlfriend just got this i4 and I was driving it back from the dealer, was below 10% battery so threw it on the charger out of desperation and it killed it within one minute giving the same Apple Pay issue message. Restarting the phone went through a white screen data recovery process. The phone boots and everything is there but Apple Pay is unavailable. I just spent an hour filling tickets with Apple and BMW. With Apple I had to get the guy who answered the call to talk to a senior advisor who took over the call. They both had not heard about the issue but the senior advisor found a ticket and added me onto it. I opted not to repair the phone yet hoping they would offer a permanent solution before I break another phone. Calling the BMW Genius line was quicker. The advisor was familiar with the issues. She asked me about my phone details and the VIN of the car. She also asked if I had CarKey setup on the phone and whether I took the phone on and off the charger while driving which I had done.. I’d encourage others to contact both Apple and BMW with your device and car details to help both engineering teams track this down and fix it. |

Well if you didn't already fry your phone — you can still use it to lock/unlock as that doesn't involve placing it on the charger.

So at that point, you have your key in your pocket anyway, so no need to take out your phone to unlock as comfort access will kick in anyway ! |

Isn’t there a setting in iDrive for disabling the wireless charger? I’m assuming the phone could still be placed there to allow for starting the car.

Once you start the car, you can take the phone off. You don’t have to leave it on. I’m assuming you’d be fine if you just started the car and then removed the phone. Can’t generate that much heat in 3 seconds.
