But sure bro!
If you fully read my post you would have seen that I said they share the same components outside of powertrain and steering I know the performance is difference, you missed the point. The point is they are the same car with different engines and steering racks, the M340i is essentially just a 340i with the M-Sport package standard. Not sure what interior differences you are seeing, they're practically identical.

Wrong it is an M car. Otherwise they wouldn't sell it as an M and place m all over it 😂

It's just an entry level M for the 3 series.
lol here we go again.... There was a whole giant thread on this. Not an M car just like C43 is not an AMG and just like Mercedes 6.3L AMG engine wasn't a 6.3 even though Mercedes put 6.3 badges on it.

My wife's X5 50i has M all over the place, doesn't make it an M car/suv...
But does your wife's car say M in front of it?
Go ahead man keep thinking what you want to think. Doesn't make it true. If that makes you happy. There's at least 9 M logos on my wife's car. Lmao!!! Unlike you, lots of M340i owners know exactly what they bought. They are not delusional.
Ouch... someone's butt hurt 😂😂😂

No delusion here just funny to see the frustration because of what bmw calls it. I guess you know better than them.

At the end of the day your wife's car isn't labeled as an M is it? Nope didn't think so 😫😂
Butt hurt??? The funny thing about this forum is that when people cannot debate logically they start name calling. Shows your maturity level.

Bro, go ahead and keep telling yourself that you own an M car. Again, my wife's X5 has M logos plastered all over it including door sills, steering wheel, brakes..... Doesn't make it an M car. FWIW, X5M wasn't available or else we would've bought an M car. Out of 8 Bmws we've owned, only 2 were non M.

Oh and just because a manufacturer labeled something for marketing reasons, it doesn't mean anything. Go back and rear my post regarding MB 6.3 engine. It not like marketing department never exaggerates or flat out make false statements.

You're new here, you missed a large thread on this same exact argument. Let's move on, here I'll make you happy. YOU OWN AN M CAR.... Happy?
You won't win this debate. It'll just be circular and you'll end up debating with him all night. Most of us old timers know and understand why BMW started slapping an ///M on everything pouring out of the factories.
Agreed, I am done.

Its a great car but what is so special that there has been "no 3-series like this one"?
It's bigger/roomier, more upscale, faster (by a huge margin), handles well, has a standard LSD, and xDrive models have more RWD bias. I'd argue it looks better too. In fact I'll drop a pic.
Does your car have laser lights? Nice looking car BTW! Great combo!
Yep. The only reason I added exec pack.
Nice! What's included in that package on the G20?
Parking assist plus, gesture control (lol), auto high beams, and the laser lights with better looking LED DRLs.
I love the ICON DRL's. Thanks for the description. Do you remember if the laser lights were available a'la carte?
They are not.

That's a big difference though.. the interior with the M trim is different from what I seen in person.

All in all bmw labels it an M. Because it's an M340. It's not full blown M, just the middle ground in its spot.

I don't care to get hung up on the M branding it's just super strange the stigma with people and M. At the end of the day you buy the car for the performance and drive not the badge.

It doesn't really matter does it? The 3 series up to the M340i are primarily road cars and great allrounders hence the point of them.

An M3 / M4 however is track focussed therefore meaning if you live in a place with roads like ours you'd be lucky to have a straight spine and any teeth left by the end of the ride (slight exaggeration but you get the point).

Thing is you could never get full performance out of an M3 on the road, not sure what it's like in other places but over here we have many idiots, pot holes, traffic queue's, strict speed limits etc. It's not a matter of one vs. the other, it's just a matter of use.

That's even worse than! You get a BMW with M-Sport package and they screw you double to scamming with the old ( I don't mind its being old but poor performance) part

Karim left Infiniti for Kia because the entire Nissan group is a fast sinking ship

Chris Bangle owns his own design firm, and enjoys his life as it is

Samsung employees Chris as their chef designer

yeah, Chris lives in Italy to run his business but he can get hired as a consultant.

I don't think that's gonna happen as more people buy 316 (3 cylinder 140hp) to beat Mercedes-Benz in sales.

Sales are the most important think for BMW at the moment.

I've noticed the exact opposite. Cars always get positive reviews initially, then the real feelings come out.
I haven't really seen that where the BMW 3 Series and M3(M4) cars are concerned. Criticized heavily in the beginning, revered later in the model cycle.
That's because they dealt with the issues with the comp pack.

I think the Buick comparison is spot on...I had the same thought when driving the 330.

And I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. But for those of us who loved the engagement that the generations before the F30 offered, it's pretty disappointing. The G series is a comfortable ride, nice interior, and quality tech.

But the car lacks that unique engagement I was hoping for. It's a bit generic feeling, and lacking excitement, like a Buick. Not to mention no 6MT.

Still an excellent vehicle, and I wouldn't be sad to have one. I just wouldn't be excited to drive it either.

The M2 on the other hand...thank god BMW can still build something like that. It's just a shame that the kind of engagement that car offers used to exist up and down the BMW lineup. Now it seems to only exist on a couple of models at best.
Lol

My E90 328i truly felt like a Buick.
I would say your sense of feel is broken.

Lighten up!

Loved my E90. But at the time many E46 owners criticized it for what they claimed it to be a German Buick.

Some things haven't changed around here in the last 10+ years

This car felt like a big old Buick from the past except a really fast one. BMW seems to have the following formula these days: make them big and heavy then engineer the shit out of them to defy physics and do things that vehicles of that proportion and mass shouldn't be able to do. Some people get stuck marvelling at the engineering while I think that formula is flawed and doesn't make for a fun car. I also drove the X3M and had a very similar opinion.

Some things haven't changed around here in the last 10+ years
Except now it's true. Big digital, lifeless, characterless brick.

Should've got the sport package. Different car.
E90 was pretty damn good out of the box. Sport pack was not a must requirement in my book but mostly icing on the cake.

A little late to this party but just one quick thought- G20 is a solid luxury "sports" sedan with an excellent drivetrain and chassis set up and an average to above average steering set up which certainly leaves a lot to be desired.

If you don't think the steering in this car is just "meh" then you haven't driven enough cars. No rational car enthusiast or even average driver can go out and and test drive other sporty vehicles in 2020 and come back and tell me that the G20 steering stands out in any meaningful way like it did 10+ years ago.

It's not so much as BMW regressing in that department(although they certainly have) but almost every other car manufacturer has vastly improved.

Of course, steering is only one of many components that go into what makes a car "fun to drive". For me, it's above chassis & drivetrain. For others, fun to drive may mean rocketing to 60 under 4 seconds and pulling .96 on the skidpad-which is why many on here placing the 340 on a pedestal which is fine too.

Terrible drive, felt like it had no steering, shoddy cut transmission. I cursed daily having to drive that pos to work. People here have no concept of what cars drive like today lol, sure had me at Buick. I'll say that M340i size is perfect for me. E46 was a tight fit, couldn't fit adults in the back except one as skinny as myself.

Give it time, with the way things are, M340i will soon be known as the best modern non M BMW ever built. M340i is the old E39 in size. All other sedans in BMW's lineup are bigger. I will say it is midsize although BMW doesn't classify it as such.
While i completely agree with you- an Altima could never match the refinement, solidity, drive train and chassis of the G20, i think the comparison is a little unfair. You probably had a base model with 16 inch generic tires.

Test drive an AWD Altima SR with 19 inch sport tires, sports suspension, independent rear multi link suspension and you'll be pleasantly surprised. .93 on the skidpad can out corner my stock 330i on Pirelli's. All for well under 30k.

Would you or I get it over the G20? Probably not. It still has the horrible CVT...but trust me-you'll be pleasantly surprised. I could live with it as a daily driver if i had to. We can't compare the G20 with base model generic cars.

It's based on the F30 steering rack, but it's been revised. Drive an F30 340i and a G20 M340i back to back and you will see how different the steering feels.
