Price/something different. There were many deals and incentives at the time with BMW (July) and not so much with Mercedes. As far as a comparison of both cars, the M340ix feels a bit more muted and less connected to the road than the C43. That being said the C43 was a coupe and had adjustable suspension so a bit apples to oranges. Both equally great cars, a toss-up if I had to choose.
Yeah, I test drove the M340i, C43, S4, and S5. In the end it came down to the M340i and C43. I liked portions of both, but I got a much better deal on the M340i. Also liked that it toned down to a better everyday driver than the C43 did, even with the adaptive suspension. I don't think you could go wrong with either, both great cars.
I had the sedan version of the c43 the m340i felt more nimble and agile and would oversteer where my c43 was understeering, in comfort the c43 felt stiffer not as comfortable. The m340 is defiantly faster as well with the better built interior, I did have to order the MPE cuz the stock exhaust is muted but my c43 had the AMG performance exhaust. I was set on getting the c43 coupe but the car wasn't different enough, both specs was the same Msrp but bmw came out to a significantly better lease price and 1 year shorter.

Yeah, the C43 interior looked really nice, but the M340i interior felt more solid.

Agree, missing the AMG performance exhaust as well. The MPE is on my radar, stock is just not doing it for me either. The M340i leased very well ($640/56k sale) compared to the C43 coupe ($930/62k sale). Looking back, I could have leased an M3/M4 for that monthly payment.

Bro that's M5 money I know people leasing M4 comp packages for 690 a month. My C43 the msrp was 63k and it leased out for 560 a month for 4 years but I did put down like 4k to the cap cost (was 25 I didn't know better) the C43 coupe was 69k and the cheapest lease price I got was $690 (4 years). My2020 order on the M340 68k and my lease was $605 a month that order got canceled and I got a 2021 order same Msrp but I won't know the numbers until bmw releases the numbers for the 2021 on Monday or Tuesday I'm guessing it's going to be around 640

2011 Forester XT (big turbo swap, FBO, pro-tuned)
2010 E92 335i Dinan Stage 3, 6MT (Jet Black)
2017 M3 ZCP, 7spd DCT (Sakhir Orange)
2020 M340i xDrive (Portimao Blue)

Coming from a F80 M3, the m340i is surprisingly close in terms of performance and feel. I would say the M3 is more sharp in feeling (handling, performance, sense of speed) relative to the G20. The G20 wins in technology and interior design (except for the M3 ZCP seats which were some of the best buckets i've sat in). G20 also wins in daily driving comfort since the ZF is more refined than the DCT, which could be a little jerky from a full stop.

Before getting into the m340i, I was cross shopping between S5 sportback and C43 AMG.

S5 definitely won in the looks department, but the steering lacked feel and engine/throttle response made the car feel really slow. The C43 had a good looking interior, but not a good feeling interior - seemed very hollow and plastic-laden. I also think that I6 engines just sound better than a V6 so BMW beat out the Audi and MB rivals.

A few must have options that i think help make the m340i a better/special car: adaptive suspension and MPE.

currently a 2020 330. prior 3 years was a 230i convertible (F23) which was fun but not practical at times and this is the last year they are making it and didn't want identical car for 3 more years with no technology upgrades.

prior to the 230i i went thru 2 different 3 versions over 8 years. An E90 which was a really nice sounding engine (was totalled when some jackass literally drove over the top of me, but the bmw saved my life). then an F30 for 3 years which was pretty good but the turbo lag sucked when at a stand still.

have to say, this new 3 is a really nice improvement all around. the E90 engine sounded nicer, but I feel like this model has same power and the tech, space (much bigger back seat), gas mileage, etc. is much improved.

Totally agree on the S5 and C43. I’m in the process of ordering an M340i, but my current car is a Genesis G70. Would be happy to share my thoughts about the G70 in case anyone is curious.

I tested the G70 and absolutely loved it until I drove the M340i. I knew within the first few minutes that it was something special.

Ha, I tried to test drive a G70, but the only dealership within 100 miles of me is absolute garbage. When I went to test drive, they couldn't find the car. After about 45 minutes they told me they sent it out as a loaner for someone that brought in their car for service... OK, right, I'm sure you loaned out a brand new G70. Just walked out and never dealt with those jokers again. Really was looking forward to driving one, until I drove the M340i. I knew it was what I wanted immediately.

It was just meant to be for you as I felt the M340i was better than the G70 in every single way and I had the G70 for 3 days! Only needed a 10 minute test drive of the M340i

Actually, there was one thing better in the G70 and that was the sound quality of the stereo compared to the HK in the M340i. That's it!

Yeah, stereo did sound pretty good. I checked out a G70 2.0t they had, but never drove because they couldn't find the 3.3t. Interior was pretty nice, but I think BMW really stepped up their game with the G20 interior.

Was always curious about the G70. Few folks in the neighborhood have the Kia Stinger (albeit a different car, but similar platform). I think both Hyundai/Genesis and Kia have really stepped their game up since 2010.

I really like the look of the new G80 and GV80 (more of a 5-series and X5 competitor), but curious to see if these design elements trickle into the future G70 generations.

Good point - I wish that BMW did a bit more with their audio. Every BMW I've owned (even with an upgraded stereo) never really tickled my fancy.

The M340i with HK is okay as long as your windows are up, but if you're riding windows down you really have to crank it to hear sound. I can't imagine what the car would sound like with a base stereo.

Anyone have any feedback for the 5-series Bowers & Wilkins system? Wish they offered a super upgrade in our 3-series to the B&W system.

I am still debating if I should have gone with the 2020 Giulia Ti Sport vs. M340. Different vehicles, however, sounds like Giulia is more than enough for much less. Though, residual brings the lease rates very close...
The car was totaled. Some lady cut me off in the highway and I swerved not to hit her and hit a wall. Thankfully I'm okay but the car was done. Wanted something a little bit more powerful so I switched to BMW. But the handling on the Alfa was amazing. That's one thing I do miss.
