Acoustic glass - M340i

Hello everyone! I'm in the process of ordering a M340i and I was wondering if the acoustic glass option is a worthwhile one. Does it dampen wind noise mostly or does it have an effect on the sound of the engine and exhaust as well? If I were getting a diesel, there'd be no question but since I've decided on the petrol 6 I think the sound of the engine should be heard inside.

Has anyone driven a car with and without acoustic glass? Any impressions?

Thanks!

You don't hear much of the exhaust or engine anyway. Most of what you hear comes out of the speakers. For me it is a no-brainer, I would always get the acoustic glass for a higher comfort.

In the EU you additionally have the OPF so you will hear even less than the US models.

In youtube videos it sounds quite nice, haven't heard it live though.

Please note many of the Youtube videos are from US (models), hence more aggressive/sporty exhaust note (pops/burbles). EU models have OPF filter, engine/exhaust still sounds nice but sound level is lower and less (hardly any) pops. Acustic glass is nice, less road/wind noise, more comfortable ride in my view.

Was listening to this video, I assume it's an EU model. Sounds decent for a stock car with opf both inside and outside.

Yes, Dutch registered M340i...sounds great, but US models sound even better. IMO EU models should have a sportier exhaust sound, or at least an option for a performance exhaust from BMW....
But to answer your original question, I opted acoustic glass.

Do you have the acoustic glass option on the side windows? Does it sound like the one in the video?

Acoustic glass was part of an option package (side windows) and it seems acoustic windscreen is standard (in my country). Hard to compare to the video (inside cabin noise), but it (exhaust note) sounds similar.

We have acoustic glass option on our X3 and it does make a noticeable difference. I wish they'd offer it on US G20's

I do recommend the acoustic glass. I get a lot of compliments on how quiet the interior is, also on high speed on the motorway.
