Waze or radar detector in Seattle?

Got tagged on 520 at 645 in the morning on my way to work. Bunch of state troopers looking to get people. Didn’t realize that due to construction the limit was dropped..

Anyways, do you guys use Waze or radar detector? Saw TTG has an escort 360 based on the hardwire thread and wondering what folks think especially for our part of the country. My main commute is from the city into Kirkland and back along 5/520/405. Thanks in advance.

I have a Uniden R3 and think radar is the way to go. Get one with GPS though so you can mark it to be silent at known points such as radar speed limit signs. It's not fool proof but helps. Laser you can't do really anything about unless you buy an expensive (legal?) anti laser system, but I find troopers leave their radar blaring most everywhere they go.

Well I just bought an Escort 360 on cyber monday--seems like one of the more user friendly, easy to use options. Will probably try it out for a while, and decide if i really like it to hardwire it and mount it if I can figure it out.

Escort is great and I have not had a ticket well over 10 years when I started using it. It saved me on multiple occasions.

I just ordered a Max360c with the sale Escort was having.

You won't regret it.

I also have BlackVue 2 Channel cams which even saved me more $$$ than the detectors. We have the worst drivers in the country all piled up in here and it is a must have in this region.

Do you guys keep the laser portion on? Laser turns on as I start the car, and i'm pretty sure there are no state troopers in my garage. I'm supposing that it is related to my turn signals or a safety device in the vehicle itself. Otherwise the escort is quite nice so far. Don't think it's really saved me from anything since I don't speed that much, but it also hasn't been blaring constantly. Any other set up tips for the PNW is welcomed!

I just installed the Max360c with laser on and no problems what so ever.

I configured it based on the instructions on Vortexradar.com and so far so good.

Waze seems good enough on our crowded roads in the UK.
I open Waze in Car Play set to Alerts only and run it in the background and use BMW Navigation. Any Police Camera sites or patrol cars are notified through the car audio. Works great.

Sorry to revive an old thread but wondering if you guys notice any gps issues either around town or on the highways. My escort 360 sometimes has trouble acquiring a gps signal and trying to figure out if it’s my placement (blendmount), my unit (which I bought new from bestbuy) or just our hilly terrain. Mostly I’m in the north Seattle , or on I5, 520, 405, and Kirkland. Any input is appreciated! The whole reason for getting the 360 was to have gps filtering to make it smarter and not have the same false alarms, and no gps signal kind of mitigates that.

My Uniden picks up GPS within about 30 seconds once I pull out of a garage. Rarely it might take 2-3 minutes but that's really unusual. Never drops GPS as far as I can tell. I've had it mounted high and low on windshield but no blendmount (I don't like that placement). I drive mostly Issaquah into Seattle weekdays and head further East on weekends.

Will try removing blend mount and mounting detector a little further back using the suction cups and see if that does the trick. If not, might be selling an escort 360 and picking up an R3 soon.

Removed blendmount (and stupidly lost some screws somewhere in the interior). GPS works much better. Still some areas where it’s a bit shoddy, but overall picks it up much faster and more consistently. GPS filtering is also much better now that it’s consistent. Will look to see where it can go to make it look clean and not cluttered. I did like the blendmount OEM appearance.

Yeah I know! It’s like a different device now that I got rid of the blendmount. Much less chatty. All from moving it a few centimeters away.

My Max 360c is super consistent and has been very quiet.

I hardwired it and used the suction cup it came with.

Where did you put the suction cup? I have mine currently a few inches away from midline so that I can reach it easily, and that seems to have good gps reception.

It is right under the mirror, directly under the casing for rain sensors and such. Pretty much at the highest point that you can install it in the middle of the windshield. Let me see if I can dig up a picture.

I have a 6 yr old Valentine V1. In the M340i when placed just below the rearview mirror it seems to trigger constantly, which appears due to the gesture detection. Has anyone else run into that with their detectors? If so, what solution did you find?

I know I could cover the emitter, but my wife has actually enjoyed the gesture control for the radio as a passenger.

My Escort 9500 was doing the same thing and after some research I realized that these guys no longer can support the latest vehicle technology.

Max 360C is doing just fine and has been quiet with all the functions turned on.

Hope this helps.

I always have my Uniden R3 on. I would recommend getting a Uniden R7 as its the newest model.
