The U.S. press release quotes $59,400 base, including delivery, for the M440iX. Sales tax is different in every U.S. state, some paid at the dealer, some after purchase at local license offices depending on the state. My local and state tax in Missouri on that base MSRP would be about $5k, so if you factor that and about $100 to register the car, the bare bones total cost for me would $64,500 which leaves room for quite a few options under $70 MSRP, and I’m not planning to pay MSRP.

Yeah it looks a bit high out of the box. My guess is that there will be a 20" option. These photos look like 18" or 19" wheels so the extra room is probably to accommodate bigger wheels on builds with 20". But even with 20 inch rims there's still going to be a gap so I definitely agree with wondering why a (sleek) coupe would ride so high out of the factory.

I'll take Chevy Malibu for $500 Actually speaking of Malibu, another BMW window design seems to be inspired by Chevy...

Right, the sensor's placement would be an issue but, for me, from an aesthetic standpoint lowering the plate really eases the view of the XL grille, much more so than having the plate smack dab in the middle which looks utterly ridiculous in my opinion. I would actually prefer a lowered front plate (to effectively mute the bottom portion of the grille) over no front plate.

I (we) may be a bit biased, but I still think it looks smart, even now, against much more modern vehicles

Fair enough I didn't think it would be entirely accurate and I know state/city taxes work differently to our more centralised gov't taxes & fees. Pricing also seems to work the other way for the US market cars like the Mustang that we (rarely) get officially in the UK, where the US sticker price is carried over just replacing a dollar with a pound symbol - in other words the manufacturer is in reality charging us a fair bit more than in the US.

The other thing that annoys me about our pricing - based on anecdotal evidence I've seen - is how US market BMWs are offered with a higher level of base equipment, plus it seems BMW through in a service plan with the factory warranty. I saw this in the past with the 228i M Sport vs the US equivalent.

The M440i looks better here. The rear 3/4 does look like an Infiniti.

The M5 LCI is brilliant.

You can go to the BMW of England website and configure a M44O and then covert the Euro price into US dollars and see what is will cost.
I will do a bit differently. I built an M340ix with generous options but not ridiculous, rounded out at 70k USD. What's the premium of a coupe vs a sedan (2k?), black lines pack (500) so let's say 72.5k. Not 80 but still a lot for a car with a controversial front grill

I'm found out! Oh BMW I take it back. The ACTUAL truth;

The all new 4 Series, boasting a wonderfully dated body, reminds me of a watered down version of a 2010 Audi A5 mated with a 2010 Camaro RS, simply stunning. It has a lovely front grill inspired by the mouth of a gigantic hamster, alla Professor Klump.. BMW then capped it all with and original copy of the rear bumper/exhaust transplanted directly from totaled 2014 Lexus LS.

Perhaps the G22 won't be around long enough for an LCI and this is their last hoorah. The writing is on the wall...coupes are dying a slow death (BMW 8 example). Probably replaced by GCs.

Even MB is supposedly now axing C, E, CLS coupes as non-essential and diverting to EV.
I don't imagine it impossible for the M4 to be put out to pasture either. Those wanting an M coupe will go to the M2. Heck, it will be the size of a 4 series by 2022. Just conjecture.

I don't know what's going on with the BMW's Exterior Designers, but the design language is off somehow. The continuity is not there anymore.

Time to give Chris Bangle a call, what's he up to these days?

I agree. The new 4 series has a tush that reminds me of an Infiniti Q60. The rush of the G20 reminds me of a Lexus. Them tush designers definitely need to come up with something of their own.
