AC delay
The AC in my M340i takes about a minute and a half to get cold after start up. It just blows hot air until then regardless if it is set to MAX or AUTO.
Is that normal? I don't remember it taking that long on other cars I've had. |

If I read you correctly, you say it is faster in Auto and using MAX. If it is only when you select semi auto functions that is likely the reason.
Based on years of BMW HVAC designs, 'Auto' is designed to reach the selected temperature as fast as is comfortably possible. Semi auto, (off Auto), may mean more feedback is required to get the system up to speed. Edit... I reread your first post and see you mention using Auto and MAX, does appear slow to get going. |

That's normal I'd say because it depends on the outside temperature. Here currently it's 38C or 100F and it takes about as much time for cold air to start blowing, because the compressor has more work to do due to the heat, however when I was in the mountain on the weekend where it was 25C or 77F it took less than 15 seconds I'd say for cold air to start coming out.

Good observation. I haven't used the AC many times but I do recall it taking longer than most cars.

I'm wondering if it is simply a case of heat soak and possibly the intensity setting for air flows. Modern HVAC systems are deeply embedded into the car structure, can take a while to get the heat away, in high ambient temperatures. |

The climate control system has impressed me so far in this car. Most cars I've had have been good enough, this one seems to take it up a notch.
However, it's also the first car I've had with remote start, so in some cases (not all) the pre conditioning might be increasing my opinion of it. |

Mine takes about 30 seconds to a minute on a hot day to start blowing cold, but isn't that normal? Shouldn't it take any car around that same time to get the A/C going?
One thing that is really annoying is that I find myself constantly having to hit the menu button to go into iDrive to turn on the A/C. For some reason when I put the climate control to auto it doesn't turn on the A/C. Not sure if I am just doing something wrong.

I have found no issues, though the hotter it is out the longer it takes. But that is only 30 seconds or so.

Press auto. But also check iDrive Car - settings - climate comfort - heating/ventilation - driver - automatic

CORRECTION: Yesterday I put more thought into it... It takes about 20 seconds for cold air to flow. This was observed from a cold start from my cool garage and a warm start in a 84 degree sunny parking lot.

Today I had to run some errands. Here in Central California the temp on the dash varied between 109 and 111F (That's about 45C for you non-US folks). Just about instant cold -- within a few seconds -- and excellent control of the internal temp. I should mention there's no humidity here.

I had this concern too but experienced it in a new 540i, x3, x5 and other g20 loaners. The dealer said its normal so I'm assuming its just pumping out the hot air left in the duct. MAX gets rid of it almost instantly, but when I hit any other option it does take a bit.
