Lithium vs AGM Battery Replacement
Greetings from F30post,
My sister has a 2019 330i. Has recently had weird interventions with the active safety, set time and date, slow mirrors and dead comfort access. She never mentioned anything until today where the car is totally dead and dies after one crank. I scanned codes and it said something about the lithium battery. I didn't realize these cars have a mild hybrid system but im not sure if that battery being defective would make the car totally dead? To me I just need to replace it with a new 70aH AGM battery in the trunk. Any feedback? |

I believe the non-MHEV models have an auxiliary 12V lithium battery in addition to the AGM battery. See this thread: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...59&postcount=4

Let me know if you figure anything out!
I have a 2020 m340ix and same issue. My car died and I’ve been getting codes regarding battery malfunction (lithium battery) for a few months. I jumped the car and it’s fine now. But I get charging current voltage for lithium battery too high. Not sure if it’s parasitic drain or something else. But good luck! |

Gun to my head I’d replace the main AGM in the trunk but want to make sure before I complete a fruitless endeavor. Any advice? |

2500??? Real oem lookup suggests they’re *only* about $750, but every listings says not available or discontinued. Never seen anything like that for a bmw currently in production…

Is the battery holding charge now after (UVP unlock?) and charging?
Is the energy display in the control display available in your non-MHEV car? (In MHEV models it shows the state of charge of the hybrid Lithium battery.) In my MHEV 440i I can force charging at standstill in P-mode by holding the engine revs at about 3000. Don't know if it works that way in the previous model. |
