Red light on rear view mirror
Sometimes when approaching my m340i from the front i see a red light blinking from the bottom of the rear view mirror. What is this?

That's what we refer to as the clown nose blinking man, been around on bimmers at least since the E36. Like above poster mentioned it signifies your security system is active.

And lets thieves know that your car has an activated security system. Not a guarantee but would likely make most thieves go to the next car in turn.
