I was thinking it was closer to $450 on the secondary market. Luckily my local smoke shop got one in and did a raffle so I got it (luckily) for $40 in raffle tickets.

Tasting notes, wow. I understand all the hype now. So much flavor, straight butterscotch bomb. This is pretty phenomenal.

I'm of the firm opinion that no booze is worth $600+/bottle.

There are SO MANY good whiskeys out there for $50 or less, I can't fathom the point other than as a "collection" at which point it becomes not about the contents of the bottle at all, really. The achievement is what matters.

I sincerely hope Hawkeye got his bottle at MSRP, since he mentioned a raffle/lottery.

We got our bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle at MSRP - $80. It is in no way worth the $350-400 it gets on the secondary market. In fact, I wouldn't pay $80 for it again. I'd rather have Old Weller Antique for less, or most of the Booker's releases at the same $80 price point.

I think MSRP for the BTAC bottles are all sub-$150. Some states (like MI) have state minimum pricing. That 18yr Sazerac of Hawkeye's is $89.28 state min here, so is the BTAC Stagg, not sure about the others...
MSRP on all BTAC is $99.

Broke the handy (and a few other gems) out for some friends last night.

The Ardbeg Dark Cove is easily one of my favorites, will be sad when that is gone.

Slightly less here in MI, if you can find someone selling for state min.

The local shop that gets the most allocated bottles just set them out at random day/times, no announcement, no raffle. Just right place, right time.

I like the raffle as it gives everyone a fairly equal chance. In my whiskey group there are several sales people that spend a good time of their day just hitting up various stores and usually scoop up the good stuff while the rest of us poor saps are working.

Question

Has anyone tried these new offerings from the house of Johnnie Walker:

Ghost & Rare will set you back $400 while the others are a modest $185 or so.

I haven't tried the Ghost & Rare, but I have a regular bottle of JW Blue at home. It's good stuff. Got a bit of spice to it. Goes great with a full bodied cigar.

There is a local whiskey chasers group in my area on facebook. Pretty much most of the people post up good sales prices or rare bottles and where they saw them. Quite a few people also post when they are travelling and come across something we cannot get in Iowa and grab extra bottles for other members of the group.

Last time we had a get together open for the whole group we had over 500 bottles of GOOD whiskey at the event...

Couple of new entries at Binny's. Not sure about the coffee one, but the sherry cask sounds tasty. Still a bit pricey, though.

I don't know, I would probably pass on the coffee one and jump on the Aberfeldy myself!

Now that my 1er is back on the road and oil leak free, I thought that I would buy a bottle of something nice to celebrate. I think I made the right decision, how good is this?.........

A buddy of mine sent a text earlier that a shop near us just got in Weller 12 at $200 a bottle. I passed but he said they have Taylor $45 a bottle so I had him grab one. I cant wait to crack it open tonight.
